I sat with my arms wrapped around my legs and my head on my knees. The Garden Swing was swaying back and forth with my weight on it. It suddenly began rocking at a quicker pace. I looked up. "Niall?"
He glanced at me and smiled before returning his gaze to the stars. I followed his gaze to the sky. Very few stars were out. "That bright one is Polaris."
"Huh?" he looked at me and then at the brightest star in the night sky.
"The North Star. When you're lost you follow it and you'll always end up home."
"You're pretty smart; where'd you learn that?"
"I read about it in a book."
"Oh, cool… So why are you out here alone?"
"Oh, I um… Let's just say that those cheerleaders in there aren't nominated for 'Friendliest Attitudes'. And the Chess Club members are peachy themselves…."
He chuckled. "Tell me about it. They say something to you?"
I looked down. "The same old thing I hear every day of my life…"
"What's that?"
"Nothing."
"So you hear absolutely nothing each day?" he grinned.
I laughed lightly. "No."
"It's alright if you don't want to tell me."
"I just can't take it anymore! They're constantly bickering me about my clothes, my hair, and every single little detail about my body! I can't take it!" I broke down.
"Whoa, whoa, whoa… What are talking about?"
"Standing alone is so much harder than standing with support, Niall. I can't take the constant rumors, whispers, and betrayals…I just can't stand by myself anymore…"
He grabbed my hands and made me stand up. "What now?"
He smiled before pressing his lips against mine. I smiled back and returned the kiss.
