Pointless Words 2: Whatever he needs.
Okay, so I was to lazy to look up the episode name. This takes place during the one where Josh and Toby got in a fight. Specifically when CJ came to Toby's office and the camera cut away TO SOON. Anyway read and review please, my fragile ego needs encouragement. ;) Sara
No he didn't want her to go, but he didn't exatly want her to stay either. Of course there was no point in sending her away now. He had already cried. Damn. Now she knew he was human, but she'd keep his secrets. She always did; as he kept hers. They both had walls built up so high; a barrier that kepts them strong, focused, in control, but every fortress has its weakness and they each new what stone to tap to make the others walls crumble.
He didn't know when she did it, or what she did. All she had dome was bring him ice which he didn't want. He may be human but he was a man and men didn'y need ice after a fist fight. But hten again, men didin'y cry. Or did they? Not that any of that mattered. HIs break in the lines would never leave her. She may have been the one to break his defenses, but she was also the one to help build them back up. Thats what they had always done for eachoter: kept one another stong, and human.
They sat in comfortable silence for a time, neither needing to say what they were feeling inside. She wiped her own tears them moved next to him on the couch and wiped his. When she touched his cheek he winced. She have him a look full of sympathy and understanding mixed with 'you-should-have-ducked'. He smiled at the sarcasm in her eyes as he shifted so that she could lean against his shoulder. They stayed that way for what seemed like hours, but was actually only a few moments.
They had jobs to do and that had to come first. She put a hand on his knee and pushed herself off of him. "Whatever you need" she said simply, looking directly into his eyes. "Yeah," he grunted as he pushed himself off the couch. She laughed and shook her head. They were getting old. "Yeah," he said again, agreeing with her unstated observation as he walked behind his desk and picked up a folder. He would be okay. The fortress would be rebuilt as it had been so many times before, but he knew that if ever it started to fall she would be there with a warm embrace, a cold beer, or a slap accross the face. He shuddered at the last, knowing she could hit a helluva lot harder than Josh, but if it came he would take it. She never gave him anythinig he didn't need.
