In the woods of the island of Berk, a light green dragon similar to that of a Night Fury landed on the ground and a person climbed of it. The person was female dressed in a dark green cloak with floral patterns sewn with gold colored thread, hiding her clothing except black boots and gray tights over her legs and a satchel over her shoulder as well a bag on her back. The girl breathed out in relief as she patted the dragon gently.
The dragon's scales were sleek which the light green turned yellow at its feet and its tailfins resembled that of ivy leaves with it turning from dark green near the steam of the tail and turning light green at the edges. A ray of small back scales down its back and two mobile, ear-like appendages on the back of its head. The dragon's wings resembled that of a bat with the same green color but inside them was the colors of a dragonfly's wings. Its eyes were a gold color and feline like with an ivy leaf mark in dark green on the middle of its forehead.
"I think we're in a safe place now, Dracaena." The girl replied to the dragon next to her.
"We should find a place to put up shelter." The dragon called Dracaena replied which could only be heard by the girl. "You need your rest after all this flying and running."
"I know. Let's go find somewhere we can live for now." The girl agreed before the two were interrupted by the sound of loud distress roar nearby. "A distress roar? But there aren't supposed to be any dragons attacking until dawn and sunrise."
The duo slowly walked forward to the roar in worry and found an entrance in between a couple of rock and a stone redge. Hearing the echo of the roar through it, the rider and her dragon walked through the small cave and the girl gasped in amazement over the sight.
It was a beautiful cove covered with lush and dense foliage and surrounded by rock faces on all sides, only bridged to the outside world by a small gap between two rock faces. The rock faces are covered with vines, moss and thick roots from older trees that sit at the edge of the rock faces. An inland freshwater lake sits in the middle of the area, which is fed via a small waterfall. The cove is littered with mossy rocks which forms the occasional stack. There are several taller trees like pine in the cove.
"This is beautiful." The girl gasped before she heard a rumbling sound and saw a black dragon nearby trying hard to fly out of the cove. "A Night Fury? But why won't he fly away?" Dracaena sniffed in the air and eyed something red on the ground.
"He hurt his tail! He can fly anymore!" Dracaena explained a bit worried.
"Then I need to do something." The girl responded as she hurried over the dragon, alarming Dracaena.
"Hey, he's still a wild dragon you know!" Dracaena exclaimed in panic. The girl ran forwards the Night Fury, who snarled as she came close.
"Don't come any closer!" The Night Fury growled dangerously as the girl stopped.
"Please, I mean no harm to any dragon." The girl replied and slowly removed her hood. Long platinum blonde hair flowing down her back, with some styled into a braided crown over her head with a ivy leaf hair accessory on the left side of her braid while her bangs were a straight fringe with two long strands on each side of her head. Her eyes were a brilliant shade of pale green with long eyelashes framing her eyes. "I'm here to help you, you're injured." The Night Fury was still on guard until it saw something in the girl's eyes.
"Who are you?" The Night Fury asked in confusion and the girl smiled.
"A friend." The girl answered simply as Dracaena arrived calmly.
"You got to be more careful, Brigid." Dracaena said and the girl, Brigid, looked at her dragon at her side.
"I'm sorry, Dracaena." Brigid apologized before turning back to the black dragon in front of her. "If I really were your enemy then I wouldn't have a bond with someone of your kind. I can hear your thoughts as if they are words but only if they are directed to me."
The Night Fury nodded slowly but still on guard as Brigid got down and looked at his tail sadly, seeing a wound instead of the other half the tail fin. Without that part of his tail, he would lose his balance immediately when trying to fly. Brigid took out cloth and a bottle from her satchel, quickly pouring the bottle's content onto the cloth and gently stroking the clothing against the wound. This motion made the Night Fury hiss in pain.
"My apologies, this'll sting a bit." Brigid told the dragon, watching as the wound sipped closed with magic from the liquid on the cloth. "I cannot regrow your tailfin unfortunately. We'll have to find another way to help you get to the sky again." Brigid then looked up. "How did this all happen?"
"Nothing I like to talk about." The Night Fury replied quickly, looking away.
"You can trust Brigid." Dracaena said gently as she followed her rider to the big, thick roots, using it as a tent to set up camp. "She's been around me and other dragons for the last three years alone since we've been away from her home. Everything she knows about us and other dragons is her own knowledge that she got from us. I know you have bad experience with humans but try at least and maybe one day, you might find a human that is just like you."
"What do you mean?" The Night Fury asked in confusion and curious over what the green dragon was talking about.
Night came as the trio slept through together by the thick tree roots and tree inside the cove. Once the dawn came up, Brigid took some water from the pond to refill her supply. The girl also managed to catch some fish for Dracaena and the Night Fury by using a bow and arrows tied to thin pieces of rope which the black dragon really enjoyed. Brigid stared at her own reflection.
She was wearing a white blouse with somewhat puffy long sleeves that was tight around her wrists. A green bodice with ivy designs in yellow thread with the same colored string crossing over the blouse. She is also wearing a knee high dark green skirt with yellow ivy leaf pattern at the edges, red tattered cloth underneath her bodice and two belts hanging on her waist, one for a pouch and the other for a dagger and sometimes her quiver. Around Willow's neck is a gold necklace with a diamond shaped pendant with intricate designs.
"To think I've been away for three years, time goes by so quickly." Brigid mumbled to herself in the reflection before nodding and quickly going inside the tree tent, where she had hung her coat to put it on. "I'm heading to the Viking village."
"What?! They're on edge right now since my pack attacked it yesterday!" The Night Fury exclaimed in panic.
"I'll be fine as long as I'm hidden from view, trust me." Brigid explained smiling as she put on her hood to hide her face. "Dracaena, make sure he doesn't follow me or do something stupid while I'm gone."
"Sure." The green dragon replied.
"Hey!" The Night Fury retarded annoyed and the girl giggled.
"I'll be back soon, I promise." Brigid told the dragons before leaving them.
Brigid walked through the big forest, taking in her surroundings as she came close to the village. The green clothed girl ran around and hiding among the shadows to not get noticed by the Vikings as she explored the big village, noticing there weren't a lot of people around which could only mean one thing. They were out at sea to look for a dragon nest to stop the raid attacks. What brought her attention was an arena, it was booming with noise and once Brigid got a closer look, she saw kids her age running away from a Gonkle with a bigger man with two prosthetics walking casually around.
"What are they doing?" Brigid whispered to herself as she quietly goes to the bars to watch. "Is this how they train to kill dragons?"
Suddenly, Brigid's attention was drawn to a boy smaller than the other kids running to get his shield back from rolling on the ground after it was hit by the Gronkle's fireball and was being chased by the Gronkle as well. Brigid got panicked when the Gronkle cornered the boy and Brigid thought quickly before reaching a hand out as it glowed light green slightly.
'Stop! Don't hurt this boy!' Brigid yelled in her thoughts that somehow reached the Gronkle as it stopped. 'Return to your cage and I promise I will find a way to set you free.' The Gronkle quickly obeyed and flew to the cage after firing a fireball at the kids.
Brigid breathed out in relief as she heard the cage close and brought down her arm. However, the boy who she just saved was looking curious at her and their eyes met as if he could see her face underneath the shadows of her hood. Brigid backed away slowly before running away from the arena.
"Wait!" The boy called out and quickly followed after her to the forest.
Brigid ran as fast as she could to shake off her follower and in the end, her hand glowed once more and the roots of a tree nearby moved up after she ran by it. The boy tripped at the roots and fell hard on the ground as he saw the girl running further away and knew he couldn't up to Brigid now. The dragon rider later on hides behind a bush, panting in exhaustion over that she was almost found out. She shouldn't have involved herself in their training and helped that boy but the look in his eyes was like her own, a small reflection that resembled that of a dragon. He too was different from other people, just like herself.
'Dracaena, please! Come and get me!' Brigid called out to her dragon in panic that the boy will find her eventually. Moments later, Dracaena later landed beside her and was worried over her rider's sudden change.
"What's wrong, Brigid?" Dracaena asked worried as the girl got up on her back. "Did something happen back at the village?"
"Let's get out of here first." Brigid told her friend before she lifted up into the sky towards the cove. "I was watching some teens under their dragon training and somehow one of the boys went after me. I'm sorry for being so reckless."
"At least you know and learn from your mistake. Until we know that these people know of your identity, we have to see until we know we can trust them." The green dragon replied before looking up at Brigid. "How about some flying to ease your mind?" Brigid smiled gently as her hood blew off by the wind.
"Of course, Dracaena."
The two flew high into the sky and Brigid was smiling brightly at the feeling of the wind, laughing at the sight and the sense of flying. It was raining hard when they came back to the cove and the Night Fury was glad that they came back, he told the two that the Viking who shot him down and then fred him had found the black dragon when he desperately tried flying out of the cove when Dracaena left. Brigid couldn't help but think about the boy she saved from the Gronkle, maybe fate wanted them to meet.
