In the darkness I laid floated there or at least I think I was there. My mind was numb, feeling blank even. I couldn't see anything, I thought I might be blind, but then suddenly a flood of memories came rushing into my head with sharp pain, leaving my me slightly panicked but as the pain settled, I remembered everything. I was dead, and It seems I died from a car accident. My name was Yamaji Ukon. Age 23.
I had worked full-time as a line cook we were in the busy period of the year and many of my co-workers couldn't handle the level of stress the job provided and quit leaving us severely understaffed to the point where we even being called in on our only days off making us work all week for 10 hour nonstop. It was taking its toll on me. One day on my way to work I had been exhausted, but It just made me all the more careful not to cause an accident as I was a relatively responsible person. However, after going on a green light, I heard a loud truck honking sound. I turned to my right and showed my last memory of getting slammed into the side of my car and sent flying smashing my head into my window breaking my neck…
So I guess this is the void where I'm going to be judged? Or maybe I'm already in hell and going to stay here to go mad as punishment I never thought I would go to hell. I've never considered myself a good person, but I've never done anything terrible either but if I had to pick I would say I'm more good then bad. As I started to think about what I should do suddenly the darkness vanished and I was in a small room that looks all cloudy with a small table in the center, there appears to be an angel sitting there sipping tea..Or maybe coffee? It seemed to be a man with long white hair and crystal clear eyes clothed in a white robe. I sat down on the other side and picking up the cup that was on my side. I took a sip; it was coffee and tasted just right, black but not too black.
"Is it to you liking ?" asked the angel.
"Yes, it just right, thank you..."
"So what's going to happen to me now?" I asked
The angel sighed and said "About that... I'm still not entirely sure as your death was the result of a stray attack in the void landing near you... You see, time collapsed on itself and sent you 15 seconds in the future resulting in your accident."
"Oh, I see..." I wasn't to upset it's not like I had much going on for me in my life. My only regret is I won't be able to read books anymore.
"As your death was unintended there was no one here to receive you upon your soul's appearance, and your mind scattered I have spent some time gathering the pieces, but it appears your mind and soul have become damaged, and canted enter the afterlife as you are now."
"Huh? But then what's going to happen to me? Can't you fix the soul and sent me threw to the afterlife?" I asked rather curious about this situation. As it sounds familiar to some books, I've read.
"We can but to do that we would have to erase your memories as Yamaji Ukon and make you a pure and unaffected soul… however, there are rules we have to follow."
"What are these rules?" I asked calmly
"The rule in question is if a soul is affected during a void battle we have to try and fulfill their wishes… up to a certain limit of course."
"Void battle what that?"
"It not something you should concern yourself with just considers it a battle between good and evil and you were a casualty during the last battle."
"I see I was kinda hoping to be involved in something exciting..." I sigh slightly disappointed
"Well... I could reincarnate you into a world you're familiar with as I saw a few your memories while I collected them I realize deep down you have always wanted to be a hero, no?" the angel said with a smile.
I was slightly embarrassed being called out like that, but I knew there was no point in trying to hide it from someone who saw most of my life.
"Yes I did, but there was no point in my old world. I could have saved lives as a doctor or something, but it just wasn't the kind of hero I wanted to be. No matter what you did, you were always restricted. You couldn't truly save everyone even if you could, businesses and politics would prevent you from saving them many doctors let their patients die even when they have the medicine or ability to do so simply because the patient can't afford it."
"Yes, but would you not fail to save everyone no matter if you were in another world or not."
I thought for a second and said, "It is true that I can't save everyone, but at least I would be able to try my very best without restrictions and could blame my lack of ability instead of the restriction placed on me that prevents me from saving them."
"Yes, I knew you were the kind of person I was hoping for when I saw your memories. It is rare to find one so accepting of death. You wish to save people from it but also know that it is natural for it to happen. You don't lose your mind to it even if it is your loved one as long as there death was a pleasant one of course."
"That's true. I always consider myself strange because of that. People always seem to be angry or upset at other deaths some are even happy to get their money to spend, but I've never cared about that.
"Yes, I have high hopes for you, but that's for the future, for now, I will reincarnate you into a world you should know well. I believe it goes by the name Highschool Dxd in your world."
"Huh? Why would you send me to that world? Isn't Issei already the hero?"
"Yes, but who says there needs to be only one hero?"
"...I suppose that's true." I gave a light sigh and asked
"Then who am I reincarnated as?"
"You will be Issei's little brother five years younger."
"Wouldn't being his relative change issei's personality?"
"Not at all there's a five-year gap because of that reason it will separate your social lives so as not to change issei too much at most he will have a strong desire to protect you when it matters. Also, you still have your wishes, you can ask away now."
Hmm, should that even bother me? I should just let issei live his life. After all, I've seen how his life goes, and he wouldn't die if it goes the same way it did in the shows and books. He has many close calls, but he pulls through.
"I see... Well, I've thought it over, and I decided what I want for my wishes."
"I see, ask away I will inform you is it is possible."
"My first wish is I want to be a dragon that can command all elements."
"Asking the big one right off the bat huh. Hmm, it is very close to the limit so I'll allow it, but in return for granting this wish, I will have to leave your race as human until you turn 10, as well as place seals on every element. You will have to train to unlock them the seals will inform you when you've reached a required threshold. You will get to choose which one to unlock. I can't have you control them all from the start."
"That's fair, and I wasn't expecting to have you agree to let me have all the elements, so that's better than I could hope for... next, I wish for a space-time ring so I can store items as well as a crafting system to go with it."
"Done. However, you will have to study materials yourself as they won't show up in your system until you know of them."
"That's fair, as for my last wish I want a sacred gear with growth potential that lets me instantly heal and create barriers if I can get an attack throw in there that would be nice as well."
"The barriers and healing is a good call the problem is the attack that goes over the limit how about allowing it to provide you with armor instead and increase defense that would allow you to stay inside the limit of what I can allow."
"That's fine although I would have liked an attack I'm not complaining."
I was satisfied with how that turned out, but then a thought struck me and asked.
"Actually… I said that was my last wish but is there a way I can be allowed to check on Issei and get to him quickly If needed? I want to know when it's time to go help him if he needs it."
"That one would be difficult as allowing you to see things from great distances is a hard ability to balance not to mention the gate ability you mentioned, but I can see your reasoning is sound. I can give you a mirror that lets you watch a target for up to 2 hours and opens a gate that lets up to five people pass through it. I can't lock it onto his soul. If I did that, the beings of that world would sense it and track down the mirror. Giving you such a powers is a bit over the limit but since it nothing too problematic I shall allow it."
"I didn't think such abilities would be a problem. I figured that would be easy to do."
"Normally it wouldn't be a problem however that world is one were there god has died the ability you asked for is a very holy ability as such angels will be very perceptive of its use, so I recommend being very careful with it."
"Would it be bad for it to end up in the angel's hand?" I asked
"Yes and no it would only be bad because there are angels that still refuse to believe God is dead as such they may use the mirror to look for there god and direct it at the true ruler instead and he would not be pleased."
"Why don't you just limit to only work on this world then?"
The angel gave a bitter smile"if only it worked like that but it doesn't I will not bother explaining it to someone who had never had power. Just know that it can't be done like that if that mirror is to leave your possession before you die and is used to show the ruler you will be severely punished do you still wish to have the mirror?"
I frowned at that. Although I would like the mirror as it would be convenient, I'm not sure that would be worth the risk it provides "could you make it so I can break the mirror if I need to I don't think I will always need it."
"even if I made it out of the weakest of materials you would need the strength of a true dragon to break it."
"That's better than having no way to break it so can we go with that."
"Very well… is there anything else you wish to know before I send you off?"
I thought about it for a min one question did strike me, so I asked," Is it possible to use abilities from other worlds like Naruto for example."
He smiled at the question and said"Yes it is, but we don't allow such abilities easily as were not found of breaking the power balance of the worlds. Many of the abilities you asked for were right on the verge of being too much. That doesn't happen often, most people try to ask for the impossible right away and be the strongest ever."
"I see, well that was my only question."
"Very well good luck in your new life...hero."
I winced at what he said, and then everything turned black, and I lost conscience.
