Joan Giardi looked up at the bright sky, full of fabulous lights. They flashed through the dark, night air, sending shadowy images for miles. It didn't take long for her to become astounded by watching fireworks. They were always extra special on July 4th, and every year was a memorable one. After having survived her first year in Arcadia, this July 4th would prove to be no different.

She found herself smiling with a quiet comfort as strong arms encircled her from behind. It was a feeling she had come accustomed to over the past few months, and her once anxiety over sharing her love had long past. Now loving, especially this particular person, had become second nature. In fact, Joan couldn't image herself loving anyone else like this ever again.

Joan's thoughts were suddenly broken as a voice whispered, "What are you thinking about, yo?" Joan's smile widened as she considered the day she had just had. Adam and Carl Rove had joined her family for their annual barbeque. Her hands had remained intertwined with Adam's hands the entire day, and she had no intention of letting him go anytime soon. Just celebrating the day together, as a couple, was an entirely new experience for her. She felt like she belonged to someone, and that someone belonged to her. It was a wonderful feeling.

Grace had met up with them later on, sharing in the night festivities in Arcadia to celebrate the patriotic day. The fireworks took place in a wide open park, with numerous pavilions and a gazebo that had been playing music all night long. Everyone had brought blankets to sit and lay on as they waited patiently for the fireworks to begin. Joan was sitting down on one of those blankets in between Adam's legs, with her own legs stretched out before her. She found herself wrapping her arms around those encircling her, and leaning back a bit into Adam. He rested his chin on her shoulder.

Joan finally spoke, "Aren't the fireworks beautiful?"

She could feel Adam's smile as he buried his face into her neck. "Unchallenged." Joan felt a small kiss on her collarbone. Running her hands along his arms, something she loved to do, Joan suddenly stopped when she felt a scar on his elbow.

"Where did you get this?" Joan asked curiously, running her fingers lazily over it.

Adam shrugged. "When I was 10. I momentarily thought I was Superman, and tried to fly."

Joan laughed lightly. "I never knew you had a secret fantasy of wanting to be a super hero."

Adam gave her another kiss on the neck. "Only of flying. Though I don't think that's as serious as koala bears in hats, yo." Joan laughed, leaning her head back against his shoulder. Never had she enjoyed someone knowing so much about her. Physical attraction was only part of the reason as to why she loved Adam so much. Mainly, she felt the connection that wouldn't go away. A willingness to share anything with him. Well, she mused, almost anything. It had taken them quite a while to begin to nurture the innate intimacy that they shared with each other. The intimacy had yet become physical, but resided deep in their souls.

The fireworks suddenly erupted into the finale, the song "God Bless America" resounding all throughout the park. Joan suddenly looked up into Adam's face, he shifting his gaze to her. The endless lights flashed across their faces as they leaned in for a soft, sweet kiss. Joan felt her heart race with excitement as she kissed the familiar, soft lips, and was only vaguely aware of a small girl staring at them from a distance with a smile all her own.
