Always (A Detective Conan short fic) By Orla

Author's note: I did this as a challenge to write a short fic between 100 – 500 words based on a title and a line of dialogue. The setting for this is in the possible future (as the end shows).

And it's very, very sappy. Be warned!

Sometimes you win
Sometimes you lose
It doesn't matter, yeah
You make mistakes but for a reason
There's a chance to be won.
God bless you for being yourself

Sometimes life is so beautiful, yeah

Always give my love
Always give my love to you
Always give my love

"So you thought you could fool me?"

The detective faced the accused, his blue-eyed gaze direct and penetrating. "Considering all the facts that I have just laid out there is only one conclusion that can be made," he said, advancing on her, his hands clasped behind his back. "There's only one truth, you know that."

A small sigh escaped her mouth and she smiled wryly. "I suppose this is what I get for trying to surprise you."

He halted and a slight expression of consternation appeared on his face. "Oh..." he gathered her hands in a soft, yet secure grasp. "I'm sorry, Ran. It's just... you hadn't said anything so I thought..."

"Shinichi, it's all right! I shouldn't have tried to keep this from a great detective," Ran teased, leaning in to kiss him. "Are you happy?"

Shinichi hugged his wife and then pulled back to lay a hand on her stomach. "And baby makes three," he said softly before kissing her back. "I'm definitely happy, Ran."

"Shinichi..." she choked, too happy to speak.

Shinichi wiped away the tear that tracked down her cheek. "I will never, ever leave you alone again."

"I'll hold you to that," she promised him.

"It's the truth," a small, playful smile curved his lips. "The only truth."

"I love you."

"I love you too... always have and always will,"
