That Must be Love

I grab my coffee and then decide to wander around the streets before I have my interview. For me it's just an excuse to observe people so I stop in a park and just sip my coffee, making up stories for people, people who I have never met and who I will never meet. I like to let my imagination go wild when it comes to people.

My eyes are drawn to a couple who are walking together in the park. He wears an old style version of a leather jacket and jeans and he looks very cool. She looks different. Wearing a jacket and bright colours she looks like she should be sitting somewhere with a computer.

What catches me though is the pure joy they have on their faces. He has his arm around her shoulders and from where I am sitting they look they puzzle pieces; they look so natural together. He looks down at her and whispers something and she looks at him in shock. Shoving him on the arm, they break apart and he starts laughing. He touches her gently on the arm and she gives him a radiant smile, obviously saying that all is forgiven.

I watch as their lips meet and I look at how focussed they are on each other. They don't notice anyone else. It is only them in their world.

"Rory! Jess!" A loud yell comes from behind me and I turn around to see two guys running towards the couple. The couple I assume to be Jess and Rory, break apart and smile when they see the two intruders. One of the new people is holding a newspaper and shoves it in Jess's face. Not knowing what they are talking about I pay attention and then hear a loud "Jess, you did it!"

I see the newspaper drop to the grass and Jess pick Rory up and spin her around, holding her so tightly. He kisses her on the cheek once he sets her down and she picks up the paper and reads what they were celebrating about. She hugs each of the guys and then kisses Jess fiercely on the lips and I am struck by the happiness that the four people share.

Particularly Rory and Jess.

It's not often that I see people in Philadelphia celebrating or kissing carelessly. I see people in general but this joy, this pure unadulterated joy, shocks me and ultimately makes me smile.

I watch as the two kiss once more and I realise something.

That must be love. Pure, beautiful love.

Just a one-shot. How I imagine some outsiders watching Rory and Jess.
