The Attack

By Athena Newhart

It all started a long time ago. I was scared to death. It must have been the scariest time of my life.

My brother, Jowon and I were at school when it happened. Both of us had had a hard day at school that day. When we got home, we saw that our parents were gone, so we tried the door and it was unlocked. Confused that our parents weren't home, and had the door unlocked, we walked inside.

And, to our horror, standing in our garage room, there stood a T-rex. It took the dinosaur about half a minute to realize we were there.

Well, I couldn't move because I was frozen with fear. My legs just wouldn't budge. When the terrifying creature realized we were there he started after us.

I suddenly knew why are parents weren't home (Because the T-rex was there!). Gathering all my strength, I grabbed my brother and ran at top speed. But still, the animal came towering over us.

Far away, the scales looked moldy. Up close, looking at him, he was much scarier. Some of his scales were broken. His scales had a hint of green. But, they were mainly brown and blue. His teeth were a ghastly yellow and his eyes were cold and staring. His mouth was dry with heat. And his snout was short and fat.

I finally called my strength together to run faster. As I ran, I pulled my brother along with me.

"Let go!" he screamed, "I can run faster by myself!"

By now we were four blocks away from our house. We suddenly turned to our right and went around the side of a house. We started back towards our own house.

I'm sure the people in the neighborhood were scared and screaming their heads off. Then, suddenly, I had an idea!

"Jowon," I cried, "Let's hide in one of the cars in our house." (Here, afterwards, Jowon told me I had the face I usually do when I get a great idea.) "Maybe, he won't find us if we hide in the front, under the seats." So we kept running until we finally came upon our house. We went into the garage room and dove into a car. I thought this was a safe idea because someone once told me it was safe to hide in the front of the car whenever something heavy was chasing you. Well, we did that and it didn't work out the way I thought it would. The T-rex squashed the car but luckily we made it out of the car unscathed.

"Isrealla, let's hide behind our neighbors' bushes. Maybe he won't see us there," my brother told me. I said it was worth a try, and we hid. But soon the large figure rose over us. So we ran back inside. We decided to pack some PBJ sandwiches and then run away from our home and come back when it was safe. But just when we were packing the sandwiches, I saw something. I had just realized we could have gone upstairs and been safe the whole time!! I showed Jowon and he agreed that we should bring the sandwiches upstairs and wait 'til the T-rex gets bored and leaves. We ran upstairs and went into the living room. For hours we waited. While doing so we ate our sandwiches and played all sorts of board games. Finally, after about six hours, we were able to relax until we could go downstairs again.

"Isrealla? ISREALLA!" called my mother who was standing right next to my bed shaking me.

"You had a nightmare, my honey," she informed me. I got up and woke Jowon. When he was ready, we went to school. But when we had gotten home our parents' car wasn't in the driveway. Freaked out, I walked up to the door slowly. I flung the door open, ready to run. And to my surprise, there was a dark shadow covering us.
