Jim had always settled for what he was given. It started, he assumed, when he was 8. All he had wanted for Christmas that year was a Tonka truck. Only when he told his mom she had heard 'Honda' and so he had ended up getting a expensive collectors car. He hadn't wanted to upset any one, his mom was always frenzied, and so he had settled. And he had gone through his whole life, ever since that Christmas, settling.

He had settled on his safety college, University of Connecticut. He had settled for Dunder-Mifflin. He had wanted a job in New York, a job that would let him travel the world; however, his Mom had told him he would like him to be closer to home, and so he settled. And so by the time his heart had settled on a girl who would never be his, it seemed normal to him. He didn't ever consider loving her settling, because even though he couldn't have her, she was perfect anyway.

And every time he had settled in his life, his passive-aggressive nature would take over. Live when he 'accidentally' ran his Honda car off the end of his bunk bead, and broke it. When it came to settling for Pam his passive aggressive way had killed them too. He had told her he loved her, and he had kissed her; he had put his heart on the line, because he was done settling. When she said no though, he decided that maybe settling was working in his favor, and so he left.

She would settle with Roy, and so he left. He settled into his new job, his new home, his new routine, and settled into life with out Pam. He had settled for Karen… Karen, she was the first he had knowingly settled for that didn't feel like a settlement. She made him smile; she made hum more aware of everything. But he had forgotten that Pam had made him feel that way too. He had forgotten about that until he went back to her. Then he realized that his settlement for Karen wasn't worth it, that he didn't want to settle in more, that he wanted Pam.

For once, his heart refused to settle. And he realized he liked it that way.
