Severus Snape had arrived back at Number 12 Grimmauld Place at 4am on a Saturday morning looking extremely tired and worn out. It was unlike him to go there at all, let alone to turn up looking exhausted and in need of somewhere to stay.

What he hadn't counted on, however, was the fact that someone else had beaten him there and was already in the kitchen when the front door had opened. He hadn't even seen her sitting there in the darkness as her hair was so dark it was almost black that evening.

He finally noticed her when he went to sit on a chair and realised it was already occupied. "I do apologize, Miss Tonks," he said, sounding rather startled to have found her there.

Tonks looked up at him suspiciously and frowned, "What are you doing here at this hour?" she asked him, almost as if she had just found Voldemort standing in the kitchen beside her.

"I may lead a double life full of secrets and deception, but that's no reason to be suspicious," he replied, knowing she understood his double life as she had learnt about it from Albus Dumbledore as few years previously before his death so that he would have an ally in the Auror department in the Ministry,

"Sure," she replied, downing the remainder of her glass of firewhisky in one go and standing up, "I'll leave you to whatever it is you were going to do," she said, and went to leave the room before turning back to him and saying, "If you need a place to stay tonight, the third room on the left on the second floor is empty."

Severus smiled at her gratefully and followed her upstairs, the two of them departing at their rooms. He was glad that she never really questioned what he was doing. It would only make him appear weirder than he did already and that was the last thing he needed.
