Author's Note: Ok, so this is going to be short, or I'm going to try to keep this short. This one is a little bit about heartache, pain, a fight, and realization. So…here it is and credit to Chris Young for the song that did a bit to inspire this. His song, "Tomorrow", is featured in this fic! And the fic also just happens to be named after one of the lines! Hope you like!
"Fire and Gasoline"
He walked alone down the streets, hands deep in his pockets and blue eyes cast to the sidewalk. There was a song that he'd heard on the radio ringing in his ears that only added to his pain.
"We're like fire and gasoline,
I'm no good for you,
You're no good for me,
We only bring each other tears and sorrow."
"Damn it, Mac! Forget it! Get out of here!"
"If I'm such a God damn burden, tell it to my face!"
"Just GET OUT! Or I'll have to call the police and then you can face the damn consequences!"
He stopped and looked up, fighting back the pain and tears. Why, why, why? He shook his head and trudged on, shoulders slumped and ignoring the minor cut on his face that thankfully wasn't bleeding anymore.
He shouldn't have ever started something with her; they should've never done anything with each other. All they did was hurt each other.
"We're like fire and gasoline,
I'm no good for you,
You're no good for me,
We only bring each other tears and sorrow."
"Damn you, you idiot," he muttered to himself, closing his eyes and walking on through the busy New York crowd. "You broke her heart like you told yourself you'd never do. She has all the reason in the world."
She stared after him, tears still rolling down her face, watching as the taillights of his Avalanche disappeared around the corner at the end of the street.
Her heart tore in two because half of the things they'd said in their fight she knew they didn't mean.
She hesitated for a moment longer before she grabbed her keys and raced out to her car, getting in and heading after him.
"Mac!" she yelled, running down the street towards him.
He looked up and the pain in his eyes almost made me slow down for a moment. Then there was surprise and a bit of hesitation when he spoke. "What do you want?"
"I'm sorry, I'm so sorry! I didn't mean anything, I just…we've both been stressed out recently. Baby, I love you, please!" she begged, taking a step towards him.
When he didn't try to move away, she took the last few steps to bring her right up to him and she threw her arms around him, tears streaming down her face again.
He put his arms around her in return, the both of them hiding their faces in each other's shoulders.
"I'm sorry too, I'm so sorry…I…God, I love you."
"But tonight I'm gonna give in one last time,
Rock you strong in these arms of mine.
Forget all the regrets that are bound to follow,
We're like fire and gasoline,
I'm no good for you,
You're no good for me,
We only bring each other tears and sorrow,
But tonight, I'm gonna love you like there's no tomorrow."
They stood for a moment, quietly, before they broke up their hug. He took her hand and entwined his fingers with hers before they shared a kiss and then walked off down the lit up street.
And, as if the city itself was happy, it began to snow.
