Yu-Gi-Oh! GX Rise of Tragoedia

Yep, this is a novelization of the GX manga. It will feature the same main characters from the TV show: Jaden (of course), Chazz (more of a deuteragonist in this story), Alexis, Syrus and Bastion (More prominent then in the anime). The titular villain is of course Tragoedia, an evil spirit hell-bent on regaining his full power and doesn't mind making the kids of Duel Academy his pawns in a game of chess to amass power.

As for characters such as Aster Phoenix, Jesse Anderson, Adrian Gecko, James Crocodile Cook and Axel Brodie; we'll be seeing them later in the story.

This is the rewrite you've all been waiting for! This will be alternating with my other story Yu-Gi-Oh! The Shadow Games. I'll write ten chapters for one story and then write ten chapters for the other story! Hope you all enjoy the GX Manga novelized! And PLEASE REVIEW/FAVORITE/FOLLOW! FEEDBACK IS GREATLY APPRECIATED!

Disclaimer: Yu-Gi-O! GX Manga belongs to Kazuki Takahasi and Naoyuki Kageyama. I however own any cards I made up. NOW ENJOY!

Prologue:

A boy with bushy brown hair wearing a red jacket and blue jeans looked down the entrance to the duel stadium. He could see and hear the crowd cheering. He mounted his duel disk and inserted his deck. In his right hand was the Duel Monster card Winged Kuriboh.

"It's all been leading up to this," Jaden Yuki stated as he began to walk to the duel arena. "Man it's been a blast."

Duel 1: A New Hero

There is an island in the Southern Sea. Upon which stands the place where the next generation of duelists are being trained.

It is called Duel Academy. The school is divided into three ranks.

Outstanding students moved up from Junior High are 'Obelisk Blue.'

Top performers on the Entrance Exam are ranked 'Ra Yellow.'

And borderline delinquents who could be expelled at any time are 'Slifer Red.'

Slifer Red Jaden Yuki stood facing his opponent with a bright smirk plastered across his face.

Facing him was a Ra Yellow, who had only 200 life points left and no cards on his field. Jaden's field had a face down and he had 100 life points.

'This isn't good,' thought Jaden's friend and fellow Slifer Red, Syrus Truesdale in worry as he watched the duel. 'Jaden has no cards in his hand. He'll be at a disadvantage if he can't draw a monster he can summon.' Syrus was much shorter than the average student. He had light blue hair with three different layers and wore a pair of glasses. He was so small that his sleeves were too long for his arms. Half of both of his hands were covered up by his jacket.

"Here I go!" cheered Jaden as he placed his hand on his deck and swiftly pulled out a card. He gazed at it and smirked.

Syrus lit up. 'He must have drawn something good.'

"I summon Elemental HERO Bubble Man in attack mode!" cried Jaden as he slapped the card onto his disk.

Elemental HERO Bubble Man: Attack 800

In a flash of light, a blue armored man with a blue cape and blaster on his arm leapt onto the field.

"Oh no!" panicked the Ra, realising that it was over.

"Direct attack Bubble Man!" ordered Jaden. "Bubble Blaster!"

Bubble Man obeyed as he fired a bubble from his blaster, which smashed into the Ra and knocked him over. His life point counter dropped to zero as he growled in frustration.

"Way to go Bro!" cheered Syrus. "You won!"

"You bet I did!" replied Jaden with a thumb's up.

The Courtyard-

Jaden was lying down on a bench, enjoying the nice warm breeze.

"I love great weather," he said to himself.

"I never find you on your own," Alexis stated as she approached Jaden with her arms folded. "Where's Syrus?"

Jaden sat up and answered, "He's dueling a trainee teacher."

"It's Mr. Ryuga isn't it?" guessed Alexis. "You know, I heard a bad rumor about him."

Jaden raised an eyebrow. "Like what?" he questioned.

"You know how a trainee receives final approval to be a teacher when they have been judged on how they did in their duel with 50 students?"

Jaden stood up and nodded. "And today Syrus has been chosen as one of those 50 students."

"As of today," continued Alexis. "Ryuga is on a 45-game win streak."

"45 straight?" gasped Jaden in disbelief. "Wow. So what's the rumor?" he asked. "He sounds like an awesome duelist."

"I heard from a group of students who lost to him," said Alexis. "But Ryuga supposedly takes cards from those he beats. The group of students actually got permission to search his room but couldn't find the cards."

"That's a pretty bad rumor," answered Jaden. "And he's a total jerk if he did steal people's cards."

"Well it is just a rumor," Alexis replied.

Duel Arena-

Ryuga stood tall in his Obelisk Blue uniform. He had short black hair and wore glasses. Unlike most people, Ryuga had two slashes of white in his hair like a skunk. His duel disk was already strapped to his arm. He tapped his disk impatiently as he waited for his opponent to arrive.

Dr. Crowler watched from the sidelines with his arms crossed.

"I still don't understand Mr. Ryuga," Crowler stated. "Why did you want this to be a private duel?"

"Ever since those rumors about me stealing cards spread," Ryuga explained. "I've been getting some bad publicity from students. I'd prefer a duel where I won't get booed."

Crowler shrugged. "Fair enough. But where is your opponent?" he growled as he checked his watch.

"Sorry I'm late," Syrus called out as he entered the stadium and stepped onto the duel arena to face his opponent.

"Syrus Truesdale," noted Ryuga. "So you're Kaiser's little brother. The top duelist in this academy. Yet you're in red?"

"Uh yeah," replied Syrus awkwardly. "I got a little test anxiety during my entrance duel."

Ryuga shrugged. "Still," he said as he activated his disk and drew five cards. "You must have some skills either way. Let's do this."

Syrus nodded and activated his own disk and drew his hand. "Okay."

Crowler declared, "Let the match begin!" and threw his hand up.

"Duel!"

Syrus Truesdale 4000 VS Mr. Ryuga 4000

"Mr. Ryuga shall have the right of the first-" Crowler stated before being cut off.

"No!" interjected Ryuga. "Let little Truesdale go first!"

Crowler was a bit confused but stepped down. "Fine, the first move shall go Syrus Truesdale."

Turn 1: Syrus

"Draw!" the younger Truesdale declared as he drew his card. "I summon Tankroid in defense mode!"

Tankroid: Defense 1900

A tank with arms and eyes appeared on the field with its card beneath it.

"I lay a card face down and end my turn!" concluded Syrus as he slid a card into his disk.

'In my hand I have Fusion Birth,' he thought. 'The card Jaden gave me. If everything goes to plan, I should win this.'

Turn 2: Ryuga

"My move now!" declared Ryuga as he drew his card. "First I'll send Destroyersaurus to the grave and add Jurassic World to my hand!" He slid a card into his graveyard and plucked out his field spell, which the deck had slid out. "Now I shall activate it!"

Syrus watched as their surroundings changed to that of trees and long grass. Pterodactyl flew above and a volcano stood to the side. Their surroundings had completely changed to that of the Jurassic period.

"Now all dinosaur type monsters gain 300 attack and defense!" explained Ryuga. "Get ready, because I normal summon a second copy of my Destroyersaurus from my hand!"

Destroyersaurus: Attack 1800-2100 Defense 1100-1400

Syrus cringed at the sight of the powerful T-Rex with a blade coming out of its head and its red and black body.

"Stomp him flat my beast!" ordered Ryuga as his monster crushed Syrus' monster under the weight of its foot.

"Tankroid's effect!" declared Syrus. "It was destroyed so I get to draw a card! Now I use my trap Return Ticket to summon another copy of Tankroid to the field in defense mode!"

Tankroid: Defense 1900

Another tank appeared to defend the Slifer Red.

'That's one monster in the grave,' the blue-headed boy thought.

"Very well," concluded Ryuga. "I set a card and end my turn!"

Turn 3: Syrus

"Draw!" Syrus cried as he drew. "First I use Pot of Greed to draw two cards!" He swiped two cards from his deck. "Now I summon Heliroid in attack mode!"

Heliroid: Attack 1500

A red helicopter with eyes flew onto the field as Syrus slapped his card down.

"That monster is inferior to my dinosaur," taunted Ryuga.

"Then let's spice things up!" retorted Syrus as he inserted a card into his disk. "I use March of the Roids! When I have a roid on the field, I can summon another with four stars or less! Come on out Missile Roid!"

Missile Roid: Attack 1000

A white missile with eyes shot onto the field.

Ryuga's eyes narrowed. "What are those puny monsters going to do?"

"Attack!" roared Syrus as he switched Tankroid to attack mode.

Tankroid: Attack 1500

Ryuga's eyes widened. "What?"

"First I use Heliroid's ability to allow Missile Roid to attack directly!" explained Syrus as Missile Roid attached to Heliroid, with the latter flying up into the air.

"No way!" protested Ryuga.

"Oh yes!" cheered Syrus as Heliroid dropped Missile Roid onto Ryuga, creating an explosion. The trainee held his arm up to block the recoil.

Ryuga: 4000-3000

"Now I use the spell Mechanical Combustion!" shouted Syrus. "By sending Shovel Roid in my hand to the graveyard, I can increase the attack of Heliroid by 1000 for this turn!"

Heliroid: Attack 1500-2500

"Say what?" gasped Ryuga.

"Destroy Destroyersaurus with Rapid Fire!" ordered Syrus as the T-Rex was blasted away by a barrage of bullets.

Ryuga: 3000-2600

"Last but not least!" cried Syrus. "Tankroid attacks directly!"

A missile with eyes shot from Tankroid's cannon and smashed into Ryuga, exploding on impact. The Dino Duelist groaned in pain from the attack and damage.

Ryuga: 2600-1100

Syrus took the second last card in his hand and slid it into his desk, leaving his hand only with Fusion Birth.

"I use 'Duel'!" explained Syrus. "We each draw until we have six cards!"

Ryuga grumbled as he drew three cards while Syrus drew five.

"Now I set two cards and end my turn!" finished Syrus.

"During the end phase I can activate my trap!" interrupted Ryuga. "Left over offspring! On the turn that all my monsters were destroyed, I can summon two tokens with the same type as one of my destroyed monsters! I summon two Dinosaur tokens!"

Dinosaur Token: Attack 0

Two small dinosaurs appeared on the field.

'He has material for a high level summon,' thought Syrus. 'But it won't help him.'

Turn 4: Ryuga

"Draw!" cried Ryuga as he drew.

'I never thought Truesdale would push me like this,' he thought in anger. 'But he won't be for long once I smash all of his monsters in one turn with my Cyber Dinosaur and my All-Out Attack spell.'

"I tribute my two tokens and summon Cyber Dinosaur!" roared Ryuga as a mechanical T-Rex emerged onto the field.

Cyber Dinosaur: Attack 2500

"Now I use the spell All-Out Attack!" continued Ryuga. "Now Cyber-Dinosaur can attack all of your monsters this turn as long as he is the only monster to attack! Let's start with Heliroid! Go Cyber Blast!"

The mechanical dinosaur roared and unleashed a blast of energy towards the helicopter.

"I use a trap!" interrupted Syrus. "Self-Termination! I can destroy all monsters I control to end this battle phase!"

"What?" cried Ryuga in confusion as Syrus' monsters exploded and his attack stopped. Syrus then drew a card via Tankroid's effect.

'Now I have five roids in the graveyard,' Syrus thought. 'Everything's ready.'

'What's he planning,' Ryuga thought as he gritted his teeth.

"I set a card and end my turn!" he finished reluctantly.

Turn 5: Syrus

"Draw!" declared Syrus as he drew. "First I summon Steamroid in attack mode!" he cried as he slapped a card onto his disk.

Steamroid: Attack 1800

A train with eyes and red carriages appeared and rolled onto the field.

"Now I tribute it to activate Sacrificial Choice!" Syrus went on as his train vanished. "I get to add any card in my deck to my hand! I add Soul Resurgence! Now I activate it! I get to return up to five monsters from my graveyard to the top of my deck! I add Missile Roid, Heliroid, Tankroid, Shovel Roid and Steamroid!"

Ryuga's eyes narrowed. "What are you planning Truesdale?"

"Victory!" Syrus replied. "I activate Fusion Birth!"

"Not that card!" panicked Ryuga.

"I mill the top five cards of my deck!" Syrus explained as he slotted the five Roids into his graveyard. "And if any are sufficient fusion materials, I can fuse them! I fuse all five!"

"Five?" cried Ryuga in horror. "Oh no! You have that card…"

"Awaken Barbaroid!" roared Syrus. "The Ultimate Battle Machine!"

The five roids reappeared and disassembled before their parts combined to create a red battle machine fortress with front cannons, side cannons, turbo boosters and a yellow light in the center.

Barbaroid the Ultimate Battle Machine: Attack 4000

'How could a slacker like him have a card like this?' cursed Ryuga in thought.

"Barbaroid attack Cyber Dinosaur!" commanded Syrus. "Ultimate Blast!"

One of the front cannons on Barbaroid took aim and unleashed a powerful blast of purple energy that incinerated Cyber Dinosaur.

"Trap card!" interrupted Ryuga. "Damage Diet! All damage is halved this turn!"

The trainee threw his hand up to block the blast but he was still thrown back from the attack.

Ryuga: 1100-0350

'I almost had him,' thought Syrus. 'Barbaroid can attack twice but it can't attack directly so I'm done for now.'

"Turn end," concluded the Slifer with a smile.

Turn 6: Ryuga

Ryuga groaned as he stood up and adjusted his glasses.

'There's no way I'm losing this duel,' he thought. 'Not to a slacker. I'll use my secret weapon.'

He slowly moved his hand over to the ring on his left hand and twisted the gem on it, letting out a small buzz.

'It's over now,' he thought sinisterly.

"I draw!" he spat as he drew his card, Dark Hole. He grinned at it – he knew he had won now. "I play Dark Hole! This will destroy every monster on the field!"

A dark portal opened up and began to swallow Barbaroid.

"Hold it!" interrupted Syrus as he tapped a button on his duel disk. "I'll use the quick-play spell Magic Barrier to protect my monster!"

Ryuga waited a moment, but nothing happened. Syrus' card didn't activate.

"A bluff?"

"No!" protested Syrus. "My spell won't activate!"

"Syrus Truesdale," Crowler called out. "If your spell does not work, it is your own fault for failing to maintain your gear."

"But…"

"Too bad Syrus," laughed Ryuga. "Barbaroid is history!"

The dark portal ate up Barbaroid before Syrus' eyes. The Slifer groaned as he slid his ace into the graveyard.

"No..."

"Now I play Monster Reborn to bring back Cyber Dinosaur!" declared Ryuga. "And I normal summon Hyper Hammerhead to the party!"

Cyber Dinosaur: Attack 2500

Hyper Hammerhead: Attack 1500-1800 Defense 1200-1500

The mechanical T-Rex appeared alongside a dinosaur with a powerful head.

Syrus looked at the monsters in horror.

"This is the end Syrus!" declared Ryuga as Hyper Hammerhead head-butted Syrus and then Cyber Dinosaur launched a blast at him, the attack knocking him off his feat.

Syrus: 4000-1500-0000

Winner: Ryuga

Syrus fell to his knees in defeat while Crowler clapped.

"Very good Mr. Ryuga," the professor congratulated. "That makes it win number 49. Only one more match to go. I'd like it for you to meet me in my office later for more details on your teacher registration."

"Of course Dr. Crowler," replied Ryuga as Syrus left the arena sadly. Ryuga ran to catch up to him.

"Great duel Mr. Ryuga," sighed Syrus when he realized the trainee was walking beside him.

Ryuga adjusted his glasses and said, "It was wasn't it. Almost had me beat until the end."

Syrus sighed again. "Yeah."

"By the way," continued Ryuga. "Could I see Barbaroid? It's just that it's a really rare card and I'd like to see it again."

Syrus shrugged. "Okay." He slipped the card out of his pocket and handed it to the trainee teacher.

"It's a beautiful card," commented Ryuga as he examined Barbaroid. "Thanks for the duel Truesdale, I'll see you around." He saluted to the Slifer before walking off.

"Hey give me back my card!" snapped Syrus.

Ryuga stopped and turned around. "What card?"

"Barbaroid!" cried Syrus. "You just walked away with it!"

"No I didn't," protested Ryuga as he showed his hands, which were surprisingly empty.

"But…you…" Syrus stuttered.

"Later Truesdale," spat Ryuga as he walked away, a malevolent grin plastered across his face.

'Little fool,' thought Ryuga. 'Not only did he get played by me; he also lost his rare card. He'll probably join that group of kids who want their cards back. But they'll never find the cards. I built that secret slot in my duel disk so those cards will never been seen by their owners again.'

The Halls-

Jaden was searching the academy for Syrus, who wasn't dueling anymore and had not been waiting at the stadium for him.

"Where are you Syrus?" Jaden asked himself until he spotted Syrus walking down a hall with his head down. "There he is!"

The Elemental HERO duelist ran towards his friend and pat him on the back.

"How did the duel go?" he asked before Syrus collapsed onto his knees and tears streamed from his eyes.

"Bro…" the Roid duelist stuttered. "He…took…my…card…"

"What!?"

Dr. Crowler's Office-

Mr. Ryuga stood at Crowler's desk while the professor sat at his desk, his hands clasped together.

"You're coming along well just as I expected Mr. Ryuga," commented Crowler.

"Thank you for the compliment," Ryuga responded. "One more win and I'll officially be admitted as a teacher here starting next year."

Crowler nodded. "Yes, a teacher at duel academy must easily breeze through the 50 duel student test. Only winning all can one pass. One more win you need, don't let me done."

"Never," replied Ryuga.

As he adjusted his glasses, he let out a small smile. 'I won't let you down…for now,' he thought sinisterly. 'Once I get into the academy as a teacher, you're history Dr. Crowler. I'll work my way up in the school, and as a teacher my voice will finally have weight in the dueling world. I'll send my students all around the world and then the whole dueling world will be under my thumb. Enjoy your glory while you can Crowler. If I can bootlick my way into the academy, I'll be the one to have the last laugh.'

The Halls-

"The rumor Alexis told me was true!" erupted Jaden as he stormed through the halls. "There's no way I'm going to let Mr. Ryuga get away with this! I'm going to get those cards back!"

Syrus was trailing behind, trying to talk his friend down. "But he's a trainee teacher Bro!" he argued. "Think about it!"

"As if I care!" replied Jaden. "He steals cards, in my books, he doesn't deserve to be a duelist! Now where is he?"

That was when Ryuga emerged from Crowler's office and closed the door behind him.

"Hey!" snapped Jaden as he approached the Obelisk. "Give the card you took from Syrus back! Along with all the others you stole!"

"You talking to me?" snorted Ryuga. "You are…?"

"Jaden Yuki!" the Elemental HERO duelist declared.

"Ah yes," snickered Ryuga. "The Slifer Red who's not bad for his rank."

Jaden dabbed a finger at Ryuga. "What makes you think you can go around robbing people of their cards?" he demanded.

"Oh that," laughed Ryuga. "I'm a bit of a card collector and Truesdale over there had a card I didn't have and conceded it to me."

"Conceded?" protested Syrus.

Ryuga ignored Syrus and smirked. "Well Jaden, I'm sure you have a few cards you'd like to give to me."

"Cut it out!" erupted Jaden as he angrily shook his fist at Ryuga. "A duelists cards are their soul! You think I'm just going to give you my soul!"

"Believe me, you want to stay on my good side," Ryuga stated. "You see, I'll be a teacher here next year and your grades are guaranteed if you give me cards now. Don't worry; your cards will be in excellent hands. It's better I have them anyway; I'm not a delinquent like you. Even the cards themselves will be happier."

"I refuse to regard you as a duelist," Jaden answered.

"Big talk for a failing slacker," spat Ryuga as he adjusted his glasses. "Listen boy, I'll make sure you're at the top of my expulsion list next year. You'll regret ever crossing me so back off."

"You're not a teacher yet so that's an empty threat," retorted Jaden.

Ryuga laughed. "I might as well be a teacher. I've got one more win to go."

That was when the door opened, and Crowler stepped out of his office.

"I was wondering what all this racket was outside my room," stated the professor. "And it was you dropout boy," he said, referring to Jaden.

"We were just talking about my duel with Truesdale," answered Ryuga quickly before Jaden or Syrus could say anything.

"He stole Syrus' card!" Jaden piped up.

"That is just a rumor slacker," rebuffed Crowler. "It's been proven false."

Jaden growled.

'Jaden seems very angry with Mr. Ryuga,' Crowler thought. 'Perhaps Jaden getting whooped by him would be enough to satisfy my vengeance.'

"You've just found your last opponent Mr. Ryuga," he continued as he gestured to Jaden.

"Jaden huh," Ryuga replied. "That will be a tough one. I read all about your defeat over Dr. Crowler at the entrance exam."

Kaiba Dome Duel Academy Entrance Exams-

Jaden stood on the field, facing Crowler and his powerful Ancient Gear Golem. His Winged Kuriboh had just been destroyed and its effect had saved him from losing.

Jaden: 2500

Crowler: 3000

Ancient Gear Golem: Attack 3000

"By destroying my monster you just activated a trap card!" cried Jaden as taped a button on his disk. "Go HERO Signal!"

Jaden's trap opened and a signal with an H on it appeared in the sky. Crowler gasped at the sight of it, a little stunned, but quickly regained his composure.

"Now I can summon an Elemental HERO to the field," cheered Jaden. "I choose Elemental HERO Ocean!"

Elemental HERO Ocean: Attack 1500

A blue under water human like creature with a staff appeared from a blast of water.

"My move now!" shouted Jaden as he drew his card. "And I'm playing the spell The Warrior Returning Alive to bring Woodsman back into my hand! And now I'll summon him!"

Elemental HERO Woodsman: Attack 1000

The man made of wood leapt onto the field and joined Ocean.

"So what!" spat Crowler. "Your puny monsters are nothing before my Ancient Gear Golem."

"Not yet they aren't," replied Jaden. "I play the spell Polymerization! I fuse Woodsman and Ocean!"

"Wait but that makes," commented Chazz in shock from his place in the stands as Ocean and Woodsman began to meld together.

"I fusion summon!" cheered Jaden. "Elemental HERO Terra Firma!"

Elemental HERO Terra Firma: Attack 2500

A white armored warrior with blue jewels on its head and shoulders and a red one on its chest appeared in a blinding flash of crimson light.

"It can't be!" panicked Crowler.

"That's the legendary rare card," stated Bastion.

"Only one of that card exists," added Alexis as she stepped forward from Bastion and Syrus to take a closer look.

"A Planet card," Syrus finished for them.

"That can't be," muttered Chazz in shock. He was sitting alone and angrily gripped the bars of the railing in front of him. "That...can't...be..."

"So what!" cried Crowler confidently. "You may have one of the legendary Planet cards! But it's weaker then my monster! That Fusion Summon was a waste of time! You were better off using your two puny monsters for a defensive tactic! Face it, even your Planet Card can't stand up to me!"

"Not yet it doesn't!" cheered Jaden as he slid a card into his disk. "Because here comes a field spell! Rise up Skyscraper!"

Towers rose around the battling duelists, creating a city. Once again, Crowler looked around in shock as the large buildings towered over him and created a night sky.

"In this field!" explained Jaden. "All Elemental HEROes that are weaker then your monsters gain 1000 attack points in battle!"

Elemental HERO Terra Firma: Attack 2500-3500

"And now I activate the spell card Combustion Stream!" continued Jaden. "But more on that later! For now, Terra Firma attack that Golem with Earth Combustion!"

Earth held its hands together and a stream of red energy shot from its fingers and smashed a hole through Ancient Gear Golem's chest.

Crowler: 3000-2500

"My monster!" squealed Crowler in horror.

"And now the effect of Combustion Stream!" exclaimed Jaden. "On the turn its activated," he explained. "If one of my monster destroys another monster, you take damage equal to that destroyed monster's defense points! Sweet huh?"

Crowler cried out as his Golem toppled onto him and ended the duel.

Crowler: 2500-0000

Winner: Jaden Yuki

"Wow," stated Syrus. "Jaden Yuki….Bro…is awesome!"

"You got that right," added Alexis.

'Nice,' thought Bastion with a grin. 'I could use some competition.'

Chazz was speechless and quickly stood up and began to walk away. He continued to say the same thing in his head. 'It can't be...' He paused to glance back at Jaden one last time before walking off.

"I did it!" cheered Jaden as he jumped up and down in joy. "I won! I'm in the academy!" He then reached into his graveyard slot and pulled out Winged Kuriboh, which gave a cry of joy and winked at him. "Thanks buddy. I couldn't have done it without you."

"Let's not be reminded of that shall we," growled Crowler as the memory of his defeat flooded his mind.

"I accept the duel!" declared Jaden.

"Excellent," Crowler chuckled. "Go to the duel arena immediately. Sorry Mr. Ryuga, but I'd prefer your last match to be public."

"It's fine Dr. Crowler," responded Ryuga before moving his head towards Jaden's ear and whispering, "Better give it your best because your school career is riding on it. Good luck."

The trainee then walked away with Crowler, both snickering.

"I'll never lose to that creep!" stated Jaden. "I'm going to beat him!"

Duel Arena-

Jaden faced Ryuga, their duel about to start. Crowler was watching with Syrus in the stands.

'Good luck Bro,' thought Syrus.

'All right Dropout Boy,' Crowler thought sinisterly. 'Go now and fail. I can't wait to see the look on your face when your life points hit zero.'

"Get ready to lose slacker," taunted Ryuga.

"I'd rather sell me deck then lose to you!" retorted Jaden as he and his opponent activated their disks and drew their cards.

"Duel!"

Jaden Yuki 4000 VS Mr. Ryuga 4000

Turn 1: Jaden

"Ladies first," spat Ryuga as Jaden drew his card.

"Funny!" Jaden rebuffed as he looked over his hand. "I'll start off nice and simple and summon Elemental HERO Stratos in attack mode!"

Elemental HERO Stratos: Attack 1800

A tornado appeared on sight and a warrior wearing armor with metal wings burst from the tempest.

"I'll finish there!" concluded Jaden.

Turn 2: Ryuga

"Alright, my turn now!" Ryuga cried as he drew. "I summon Destroyersaurus in attack mode!"

Destroyersaurus: Attack 1800

The black and red dinosaur appeared on the field and roared.

"They both have the same attack power," Jaden observed.

"It'll be mutual destruction!" added Ryuga. "But I'm fine with that! Attack Stratos Destroyersaurus!"

"Counterattack Stratos!" ordered Jaden as his monster unleashed tornados from its wings, which smashed into the opposing monster. It began to fade but managed to bite Stratos, shattering the HERO just as the dinosaur vanished completely.

'Why would Ryuga destroy both his and Bro's monster?' thought Syrus, confused.

'In my hand,' though Ryuga as he adjusted his glasses. 'Is Cyber Dinosaur. All I need to do now is by some time so I can summon it.'

He took a spell from his hand and slid it into his disk. "I activate the Swords of Revealing Light!"

Jaden's eyes widened as three swords composed of light appeared and surrounded his field.

"Not this card," groaned Jaden.

Ryuga grinned devilishly. "That's right, your monsters cannot attack me for the next three turns!"

'That will give him time to put monsters on the field or firm up his defenses,' Jaden thought.

"Now I shall end my turn," finished Ryuga.

Turn 3: Jaden

"My turn! I draw!" the HERO duelist cried as he drew his card and added it to his hand. He picked one and slapped it onto his disk. "I summon the Elemental HERO Sparkman in attack mode!"

Elemental HERO Sparkman: Attack 1600

Yellow and blue electricity shot up from the ground and began to form a humanoid shape before it took the form of a yellow and blue armored warrior.

"What good will that do?" mocked Ryuga.

"You'll see," answered Jaden calmly. "And I think I'll end my turn for ya."

Turn 4: Ryuga

"Pathetic," spat Ryuga as he drew his card and looked at Jaden's Sparkman in disgust. "First I summon Horn Runner in attack mode!"

Horn Runner: Attack 1300

A triceratops with a powerful horn rampaged onto the field.

"Then I use Double Summon!" continued Ryuga as he slid a card into his disk. "Now I can normal summon again this turn! I'll summon Jaw Runner!"

A small T-Rex with powerful legs and large jaws ran onto the field.

Jaw Runner: Attack 1000

'Next turn I'll summon Cyber Dinosaur and destroy him,' Ryuga thought cockily. 'Say goodbye to Duel Academy Jaden. Not only that, but when I win, I'll be taking Terra Firma for myself.'

"I end my turn," he concluded.

"This isn't good," Syrus said to himself. "Mr. Ryuga has two monsters on his field and Bro can't attack and stop him from tribute summoning."

Turn 5: Jaden

"Get ready to get your game on!" declared Jaden as he drew his card. "I'm summoning out Elemental HERO Wildheart!"

Elemental HERO Wildheart: Attack 1500

A warrior man with patterns on his body wielding a sword leapt onto the field.

Ryuga shook his head. "What are they going to do? You can't attack because of the Swords of Revealing Light!"

Jaden smirked. "Funny story about that. You see I'm activating the card I drew now, go Mystical Space Typhoon!"

Ryuga's eyes widened in horror. "No! Not that card!"

A black typhoon appeared and swallowed up the shining swords that blocked Jaden's monsters.

"Now Bro can attack again!" cheered Syrus.

"Wait…I…" stuttered Ryuga in shock.

"Destroy Jaw Runner Sparkman!" ordered Jaden. "Static Shockwave!"

Electricity shot from Sparkman's fingertips and electrocuted Jaw Runner until it shattered.

Ryuga: 4000-3400

"Now Wildheart smashes your last monster!" continued Jaden as his last HERO sliced Horn Runner in half with its powerful blade.

Ryuga: 3400-3200

"I'll finish up there!" concluded Jaden.

"Way to go Bro!" encouraged Syrus from the stands. Next to him, Dr. Crowler growled.

'Come on Mr. Ryuga,' the Obelisk professor thought. 'Don't let me down.'

Turn 6: Ryuga

'He is good,' thought Ryuga as he starred down Jaden. 'Maybe his win over Crowler was more then luck. But I've done my homework and done a thorough search of your deck. I know you rely on winning through fusion monsters. That means if you can't use Polymerization then you're nothing!'

"Draw!" he shouted as he drew Pot of Greed and immediately activated it. "I draw two cards!" he explained as he did just that, getting Ultra Evolution Pill and Stomping Ground.

'These will do just fine,' Ryuga thought with a sinister grin.

"First!" he went on as he slapped a card onto his disk. "I summon Don Turtle in attack mode!"

Don Turtle: Attack 1100

A green shell with a turtle hiding within it appeared on the field.

"Now I activate Ultra Evolution Pill!" explained Ryuga. "I tribute Don Turtle and special summon Cyber Dinosaur!"

Cyber Dinosaur: Attack 2500

That mighty cybernetic T-Rex emerged onto the field and roared at Jaden.

"Cyber Dinosaur annihilate Wildheart with Cyber Blast!" commanded Ryuga as his monster blasted Wildheart with an energy beam. Jaden lifted his arms to block the recoil from the attack.

Jaden: 4000-3000

"I set a card and end my turn!" finished Ryuga.

Turn 7: Jaden

"Draw!" Jaden cried as he drew his card, Polymerization.

'Perfect,' he thought as he examined his hand. 'I've got Woodsman and Ocean in my hand already. Now I can summon Terra Firma. This duel won't take long.'

Ryuga grinned at the smile that had appeared across Jaden's face.

'Looks like he's drawn a key card,' he thought to himself as he fiddled with the ring on his left hand. 'I'm afraid I can't let you use it.'

'Here comes fusion,' thought Jaden as he slid Polymerization into his disk and waited for the summoning to occur. But nothing happened.

"Hey why doesn't this activate?" protested Jaden as he took out Polymerization and slid it in again. But nothing happened. He took it out again and panicked.

Ryuga laughed quietly to himself. 'It's pointless to keep trying Jaden,' he thought. 'My ring is giving off a special magnetic ray that jams your disk's spell card reading system. My disk is protected however with a special built in shield.'

'Did my disk crash?' questioned Jaden in thought. 'But my monsters are working.'

"What's wrong Bro?" asked Syrus.

"What's he doing?" asked Chazz as he watched the duel through a pair of binoculars. "Why doesn't he activate his spell? Don't just stand there holding Polymerization!"

"He's acting weird," commented Alexis from next to Chazz, both having joined Syrus and Crowler. "I wonder if something's wrong."

"Maybe his spell won't activate just like what happened to me!" suggested Syrus.

Crowler dismissed it. "Well that's dropout boys fault. He was asking for it by failing to maintain his disk properly."

"My disk wouldn't activate spells at the end of my duel with Mr. Ryuga either," Syrus went on. "But after the duel there was no glitch in my disk."

"How long are you going to take?" shouted Ryuga over to Jaden. "I'm getting bored over here!"

Jaden growled as he placed Polymerization back into his hand. "I summon Ocean in defense mode! I switch Sparkman to defense mode, throw down a face down and end my turn!"

Elemental HERO Ocean: Defense 1200

Elemental HERO Sparkman: Defense 1400

A blue humanoid water creature appeared and took a defensive stance alongside fellow HERO Sparkman. In addition, a reverse card appeared in front of Jaden.

Turn 8: Ryuga

"My turn!" cried Ryuga as he drew Hyper Hammerhead.

'Oh man!' panicked Jaden in his mind. 'What am I going to do without spells? Of all the times for my disk to crash, why now?'

"Arise Hyper Hammerhead!" declared Ryuga as the dinosaur with the powerful head emerged.

Hyper Hammerhead: Attack 1500

"Now I use my face down spell Smashing Ground!" continued Ryuga. "The monster with the highest defense on your field is destroyed! Say nighty night Sparkman!"

Jaden cried out as a giant rocky fist came down from the sky and struck down his electric HERO.

"Now Hyper Hammerhead destroy Ocean with Hyper Head-butt!" ordered Ryuga as his dinosaur leapt forward.

'Please work trap card,' Jaden prayed in thought as he touched a button on his disk.

"Go! Hero Barrier!" roared Jaden as his trap flipped up. "Because I have a HERO on the field, this attack is negated!"

A barrier came up and cut Hyper Hammerhead off from Ocean.

Jaden sighed with relief. 'Yes, my trap worked,' he thought.

"Cyber Dinosaur attack!" commanded Ryuga as his T-Rex roared and unleashed an energy blast that smashed into Jaden and lowered his life points.

Jaden: 3000-0500

"Why did I get hit directly?" questioned Jaden in shock.

"Cyber Dinosaur's effect!" explained Ryuga. "It can sacrifice one of my monsters in order to attack the opponent directly while they have a defense monster! So I tribute Hyper Hammerhead at the end of the turn!"

The head powered dinosaur vanished as Ryuga's turn ended.

Turn 9: Jaden

'Hang in there Bro,' Syrus prayed in thought.

'If only I could use a spell,' Jaden thought. 'What the heck happened to my disk?' That was when a thought struck him. 'Wasn't I playing Frisbee with it the other day? That must be why!'

As Ryuga adjusted his glasses he taunted, "Surrender Jaden Yuki. It will take a miracle to beat me!"

Jaden retorted, "No way! A duelist doesn't give up till their life reaches zero or their cards run out! Just like the legendary duelists never gave up!" Thoughts of Yugi Moto, Seto Kaiba and Joey Wheeler flooded Jaden's mind as he placed his hand on his deck. "I'll never back down and one day I'll arise to become the Duel King!"

'I'm not giving in!' he thought as he drew his card swiftly. 'Because my powerful soul and burning right hand will make it happen!'

He looked at his card and smirked.

"I summon Elemental HERO Woodsman in attack mode and throw down three face downs! Turn end!" Jaden declared.

Elemental HERO Woodsman: Attack 1000

The man composed of wood emerged and stood by Ocean. Behind it, three face downs appeared.

Turn 10: Ryuga

"Resistance is futile!" mocked Ryuga as he began his turn. "I'll put you out of your misery! Cyber Dinosaur destroy Woodsman!"

As the T-Rex charged up energy in its mouth, Jaden interrupted with, "Go trap card! Swamp of the Fallen! One of my opponents monster's attack is cut in half!"

Cyber Dinosaur: Attack 2500-1250

Underneath Cyber Dinosaur appears a swamp, where the spirits of Sparkman, Stratos and Wildheart emerged and flew into the mechanical beast and exploded. The dino howled as it was weakened.

"So what?" hissed Ryuga as an energy stream rocketed forward from his monster. "You survive this turn but Woodsman will still bite the dust!"

"Again I activate a trap card!" rebutted Jaden as he flung his arm out. "Go trap card! Give me a miracle! I use Alternate Fusion! Now I can fuse Ocean and Woodsman!"

'What?' thought Ryuga in shock. 'Trap fusion?'

"Awaken Elemental HERO Terra Firma!" roared Jaden as the white armored Planet HERO appeared on the field in a burst of red light.

"So what?" crowed Ryuga. "A reply occurs now and I can stop my attack! Next turn Cyber Dinosaur will be back at full strength! This match is mine!"

"I beg to differ!" retorted Jaden. "Alternate Fusion has a second effect! If the summon it provided was during the battle phase, I can make it the new attack target for an attack! So, because you were originally attacking Woodsman, you're now attacking Terra Firma!"

"No!" protested Ryuga, but there was nothing he could do. His T-Rex launched its attack at the Planet Card, but it dodged the attack and uppercut the cyborg dinosaur, shattering it.

Ryuga: 3200-1950

"This isn't over yet boy!" cursed Ryuga. "You only destroyed my monster!"

"You're right!" answered Jaden. "It isn't over! I activate Shield Strike! Because Terra Firma dished out some damage, you now take his 2000 points of defense as damage as well! This'll finish it!"

Terra Firma held its hands together and a red energy beam burst from it and smashed into Ryuga, busting his ring, knocking him down and sending his duel disk crashing to the ground. The special compartment on it broke opened and all of the stolen cards fell out. An angry group of students appeared, toppled Ryuga and took their cards back.

Ryuga: 1950-0000

Winner: Jaden

"Jaden took his time," commented Chazz as he folded his arms.

"You let me down Mr. Ryuga," scowled Crowler.

"You rock Bro!" cheered Syrus as he received Barbaroid back from Jaden. "You're the best!"

Jaden smiled and gave his friend a thumbs up. "Tell me about it! Make way for the next Duel King!"

To Be Continued: Next Time – "Princeton!"

After Chazz discovers Jaden's Winged Kuriboh houses a spirit, he sets up a duel with the Slifer Red to prove to him that cards are only tools! But can Chazz win without his own spirit partner? Will Jaden prove teamwork is the best strategy or will Chazz hang on to his winning hand?

Hope you all enjoyed the first chapter! Yes, I added on a bit from the original chapter like the flashback of Jaden dueling Crowler, the start of Jaden's duel with Ryuga and Syrus dueling Ryuga! I adjusted the effect of Alternate Fusion a bit with the attack redirecting effect and Barbaroid doesn't have its extra damage inflicting ability because in the manga, it actually doesn't have that effect.

Please note that cards otherwise are presented how they are in the manga. That includes stats and effects. Also, I added a few fan made cards like Mechanical Combustion, Soul Resurgence, Sacrificial Choice, Horn Runner and Jaw Runner etc. I own these cards because I created them.

Still, hope you all enjoyed this and PLEASE REVIEW/FAVORITE/FOLLOW!
