Pain
Her back slammed against the wall, slumping to the ground,
curling up into a ball. The heavens
split, rain battered down in sheets, sticking her flowing tresses to the
ground. Her frail body shook with all the pain… too much pain for her to handle,
it all trying to come out at once; she just couldn't take it. The tears forced out without end as an
attempt to amend the suffering and loneliness that left her soul bleeding. It all broke his heart, shattering it to the
tiniest of pieces, causing him to turn away.
His body was emotionally torn apart with hers. Oh, how he wanted to run to her, to grab her in his arms and
shield her from any misery… to make it all better… to lay over her to keep her
dry… anything. Maturity, love, and fate
instead confined him to a shadowed corner as an observer. Shutting his eyes did no good, nor did
clutching his ears; her desperate lonely sob echoed throughout his mind. She thrashed her arms down, pounding the
ground as if drowning from the cascading droplets that rammed down upon her
form. As her energy drained away, she
muttered one unsolved word before the blackness void enveloped her mind and
spirit.
"Why…?"
This caused him to break down. He grabbed his head, having an inner battle with the voices of
reason. One side won. He knew he shouldn't - the heavens had
forbidden him to do so. He knew he
should let her be. The hell with
reasoning. Silently he crept over to
the lifeless form, subconsciously shivering from the cold, her face blotchy
from the ever-flowing tears. Her mouth
was slightly ajar, letting out shallow breaths. His ebony bangs swept across midnight blue hues shining with love
and compassion. Slowly, he began to
weep – she was so beautiful, inside as well as out – how could he handle seeing
her so vulnerable? He removed his
jacket and gingerly placed it over the girl to warm her. Oh-so carefully and gently he gathered his
angel in his arms from the soaking ground.
Her long pigtails limply dangled over his arm, her body subconsciously
moving closer to the warmth. He smiled
warmly down at her and started on his journey home, knowing he made the right
decision.
