They stood on the beach their feet bare and covered with sand. The light from the moon casting a shadow across half of their faces, her blonde hair was lightly blowing in the wind, shining. His eyes glistened as he stared at her trying so hard to read her emotions.
They had been standing there for what seemed like hours but were merely only minutes in silence. Listening to the wind cry, the waves crashing against the shore and washing back out again, playing its own little game. The stars hung delicately in the sky twinkling brightly.
He heard her breathing; it was calm, steady, and rhythmic. He didn't know how after being shot she could be so calm and not worry, not feel any anger or pain, not wanting to get the barstard behind the evil plan. Because of that person she could've been dead, he could've been dead.
He didn't understand how she didn't feel what he felt. The pain and anger, he was determined to find that person and make them pay for hurting his crew.
He looked at her again for the fifth time in ten minutes, she just stared out to see. He couldn't bare the silence. He couldn't bare not asking her if she felt the same way, about the events of the passed weeks, how she feels about him. He knew how he felt about her but were those feelings returned?
"How can –' he stared to speak but something inside of himself warned him to stop. He wasn't sure of what it was. She turned and looked at him, her eyes glowing.
"How do you cope?" wonder evident in his voice.
"How do I cope with what?" Her voice lower than usual.
"With what happened. Being shot like that. Cause I know I wouldn't be able to." His eyes told her that he was being honest with him. He wasn't lying he really couldn't cope.
"Truth?"
"Yeah, truth, tell me your secret" this time there was a hint of flirting.
"Truth…" she was hesitant he could tell by her tone and the look in her beautiful eyes.
"Truth is…I don't cope" He opened his mouth to say something but nothing came out
"Its all an act Mike, cause inside of me I don't cope, everything crumbles to pieces. Nothing truly right, my heart barely beats."
He knew there was deeper meaning to what she was saying and he was part of the reason, he really did hurt her all those years go.
He glanced out to the sea, his love, his other love. When he turned back to look at her the light caught his eye and he noticed that there were tears rolling down her cheeks. The first time in years Kate had opened up to him and he couldn't bare it, he didn't want her crying.
He moved closer to her, hoping that she wouldn't turn away and she didn't. She let him wrap his arms around her. She let him comfort her. She let him hold her tight as she cried, letting everything free, all the pain and anger of the past.
His early question about how she felt about him was answer in a single silent motion.
They stood there on the beach, sand covering their bare feet, holding each other in their arms, closer then they have been in years. All their feelings running free, both hearts beating in rhythm, together as one whole. The wind blowing her hair and the moon casting shadows across their faces. They could hear the wind cry and the waves crash against the shore and back out playing its own little game.
