With Certainty
Rachel Edwards sat beside her daughter's side as she slept. Her dark brown hair covered her forehead, making her smooth and childish features hard to see. Rachel wanted to reach out and grasp her daughter tight and never lessen her hold, but the mother stopped. She wiped away a tear. Rachel had been dangerously close to losing Grace. Being the former wife of a cop, she knew that situations like Grace's happened every day, every waking minute. However, the fear was real as Rachel stared at the picture of her daughter flashing in the police station. She had felt numbness overcome her, and couldn't fully breathe until her nine year old was safely in her arms. Danny's partner from the mainland was gone for good. He was going to be locked up for the rest of his life. Rachel hadn't been able to conceal a smile of delight at the thought, and Danny had smiled as well. Now as she watched Grace sleep, Rachel wondered what else the girl would face. It was dangerous being a friend to Lt. Commander Steve McGarrett. Rachel had been told that Steve had been tortured in North Korea, and one of their accomplices had paid with their life. For a moment Rachel was overcome with fear for Danny. Then she remembered of all the times he had been saved by his beloved partner, and counted on him. Their daughter Grace affectionately called him "Uncle Steve."
Five-0 was a taskforce that could endure any situation and setback, Rachel thought with certainty. The team now had bonds that no one could break, and she felt that Steve had eased the hurt and pain between her and her ex-husband. She would never forget that. Rachel also wouldn't forget of how Five-0 had saved Grace and other countless people. With a faint smile Rachel remembered Danny telling her that the team had been happy with the birth of her son, Charles, who was now four months old. She stroked Grace's face gently, not wanting to wake her up. She knew that Danny would want his daughter to stay with him even when her mother and stepfather and half brother moved to Las Vages. She was his world now, his only, something that Rachel had been to Danny herself a long time ago. It would be hard for Rachel too to part from Grace, for she knew that Danny would win his custody battle. For a brief moment the proud and beautiful brunette woman wanted to sob, but she controlled herself. She will be safe with her new family, Rachel thought with certainty. If I take her away, I would be taking away all she loved. I know they will protect her, without a doubt and with certainty. Rachel stayed by her daughter's side until dawn, and slowly drifted away. I'm certain that Five-0 will protect her and keep her safe. I'm certain.
