Notes: This fic originally started out as a meta in which I wanted to imagine how Ramin Djawadi's "Be with Me" could apply to other different, equally tragic, but redemptive scenarios for Jon, Dany, and Jonerys, many of which may involve Jon or Dany's death. There are, of course, infinitely many scenarios one can imagine. This is just a selection.

Dany's body is a shimmering island in a sea of ash, skin turned to moonlight with the touch of the rising sun. Drogon and Rhaegal nose at her gently, their broken trills echoing over the frozen soil of the battlefield. She's lighter in death, but as Jon holds her, it is not her body that burdens him, but her beauty. She died for all of us—his hurt, deep and cutting, twists and tears. She did this not just for him, but for the country she would've taken into her care. He kisses her, and his heart calls to her ghost. Be with me.

The Long Night would not have ended without Jon. But now, Daenerys is without Jon. She is alone under the sun's light, and she weeps. She weeps for the man who had given her so much and asked for so little; who gave Westeros so much and only asked that others be given the same in return. Who had held her anger and fear and joy with equal gentleness. He had wanted to see all of her. All of what he was—his tired, burdened, beautiful soul—falls on her then. The weight crushes her to ash, black and smoking. She burns with longing and with rage; her heart calls to Jon's soul. Be with me.

The Red Keep falls, a ruin of molten stone. In the throne room, a thousand swords press their essence into her palm, sharp and true. It is the touch of ash, soft upon her face, that draws her away, to the window, to look upon the city, to her people who beg and cry and scream. She did not burn the city—but they scream as if she had. She is alone, and her aloneness presses upon her, a truer steel than any dragon-forged blade. A cutting weight she cannot carry alone. The power of rule is no counterbalance. Her heart calls to the truest part of itself, longing for home. Be with me.

It is Jon who finds her first, and their hearts speak together.

Be with me.

In the sky, the sun warms their path east.
