When Barry Allen opened his eyes, he found himself in a strange and unfamiliar location. He was lying on a hospital bed, in a room that he could only describe as 'sterile.' There was medical equipment all around him, and he was hooked up to a few tubes, as he would be in an infirmary. The only problem was that the room he was in was certainly not a hospital. He noticed a few labels on the medical equipment and on the walls that said 'Star Labs.' Star Labs was definitely no hospital. In fact, Barry then recalled that he was at a Star Labs event yesterday (or so he thought).
He went with his best friend Iris. Her father, Joe West, was a cop who took Barry in after his parents died in a tragic accident. He remembered convincing Iris to come to this particle accelerator exhibition, hosted by Harrison Wells. He also remembered going to the Central City Police Station, where he worked as a forensic scientist, to work on some cases. Before Barry could revisit those events further, some people walked into the room. They identified themselves as Cisco Ramon and Caitlin Snow. Behind them was a familiar man in a wheelchair.
"I'm Harrison Wells," he said. "But call me Harry."
Harry explained to Barry that he had just awoken from a coma. Naturally, Barry asked how long he had been in that state of unconsciousness, with a hint of suspicion in his voice.
"You've been out for nine months," Caitlin replied, somewhat awkwardly.
"Nine months?!" Barry exclaimed. "You're telling me that I was in a coma for nine months?" He asked, with extra emphasis on the word 'nine.'
"Yes," Harry said. "The night of the Particle Accelerator unveiling- which you attended, correct?"
Barry Allen nodded.
"It went wrong. When you were in your lab at the CCPD (Central City Police Department), the accelerator exploded. It sent a bolt of lighting, well, to you. Those idiots at the hospital you were taken to know nothing, so we relocated you here, Star Labs."
"Okay, thanks. Now if you don't mind, I have to go see my-" Barry hesitated, thinking of what Iris was to him. "Friend." He stood up, ready to leave, but was pushed back down by Cisco.
"You can't leave yet," Cisco said.
"We just have a few more tests to run," Caitlin said, with a needle and syringe ready. She took ahold of his arm and injected him with the clear liquid in the syringe. Barry slowly watched as his vision began to disappear and everything turned black.
