Lily was close to crying.

She'd just spoke to Sev, after he'd called her a... that awful word, and she had so wanted to accept his apology. She'd wanted it so badly.

But there were other factors playing into this, things he'd never apologised for, that he didn't seem to care about. Things he partially didn't even know she knew.

Like how he'd never even looked sorry for what his friend Mulciber tried to do to Mary. He knew it had happened, and she knew he had covered for Mulciber. He'd just behaved as if it was Mulciber's right to ... to do that to Mary.

Like how he'd called everyone else with her roots a Mudblood, and how he'd talked about how superior purebloods were and what an idiot Dumbledore was for not allowing the Dark Arts to be taught in his school behind her back. She'd sometimes overheard conversations with his other friends. "...this mudblood filth must be taught some manners." That was what he had said.

Or how he'd violently deny that she was Muggleborn when speaking to his friends, and always attacked her sister... "Look, Evans can't be a Mudblood. She's too powerful. Have you seen that sister of hers? Ugly as hell, they look nothing alike. She's probably adopted, and they just haven't told her yet..." He knew how much she looked like her parents, and Tuney... well, Tuney'd gotten Mum's neck and Father's hair and eyes, while she had gotten Mum's hair and eyes, which was much better. He knew how the hospital staff had told her stories about her delivery, he'd been with her when she asked, for heaven's sake!

Or how he'd talk about You-Know-Who. Like that guy was his personal hero or something. He sometimes even called him "Our Lord" in conversations with his other friends.

True, most of it had only started this year, and she'd tried so hard to counterbalance it, but she just couldn't take it any more. She couldn't take it her best friend was worshipping someone who wanted to kill everyone like her. That was what really had broken their friendship.

Broken. That was what she felt like, right now.
