"Cross my heart and hope to die."
Her voice was so young then.
Natsu rubbed his eyes and growled.
"What's wrong, buddy?" Happy asked.
"Nothing," Natsu replied, uncharacteristically gruff.
Happy nodded and looked back at the campfire.
"I miss her, too," Happy said softly.
Natsu didn't reply. They sat in silence, and Natsu fell back into memory.
"Don't say that!" Happy shouted.
"It's just a silly saying," Natsu said. He was trying to comfort Happy, but all he did was upset her.
"Heeeey, it's not silly!" she shouted as she smacked Natsu on the arm. "It's a solemn vow!"
"Wuuuaaaaah, don't say you wanna die, L--!"
Natsu shook his head again.
"Hey, Happy," Natsu said roughly.
"Yeah, Natsu?" Happy replied in a voice choked with emotion.
"Let's get something to eat." Natsu stood and Happy jumped up with a nod.
"Yeah, that sounds good," Happy agreed.
