It had been only eight or so hours or so when she woke up. Her room was still in shambles, red feathers and Scrabble pieces randomly scattered on the floor, the sense of adventure still lingering in the morning air. She did the usual; shower, dress, and make her way down the stairs leading into the kitchen. It was there that she saw the tired face of her step-mother, slowly sipping from a pot of coffee.

Muttering her 'hello', she fixed herself a small breakfast, when her step-mother turned towards her.

"Sarah," She began, reaching into the pocket of her pink silken bath robe, "Does this belong to you?" In her hand, a scarf, purple, green, long and airy. She handed it to the girl, who rubbed it between her fingers, as the older woman continued, "I found it on the floor of our bedroom last night. I suppose you dropped it while putting Toby away?"

She flashed back to last night, so short a time ago. Wild, mismatched eyes. Intimidation. Defiance. Consequence.

Mutely, Sarah nodded. Tears brimming her eyes, she walked out of the room, leaving her breakfast uneaten, and her step-mother confused.
