notes — Boom! A ficlet/drabble collection about the kids of my favorite pairings, and then some. Admit it, you're curious how those kids would be as parents.
notes 2 — Tobey is the first kid of Wally and Kuki. Tobey is the nickname for Wallabee Beetles Junior. Junior is two which becomes Two-bee which becomes Tobey. Get it?
title; shake in some sugar.
prompt; bitter.
characters; tobey beetles [oc], joey beetles.
Tobey, Joey decided as he watched the toddler chew on his own fist, was a huge pain. He was always grabbing things, drooling on things, and trying to eat expensive toys that cost Joey a month worth of allowance. His mom said he was just "teething" after scolding him for ripping the aforementioned toy from the chubby fingers of his nephew.
"Poor lil' pup," she had cooed, plucking the crying boy from the living room carpet. "His gums are probably sore, he don't know what to do with 'imself."
The toddler, distracted from his tears, then preceded to grab a fistful of her hair with a lopsided grin and tug while squealing nonsense. The blonde women had winced, and Joey — rather smug — had presented this as evidence that his brother's spawn was "evil" and should be locked in his playpen for all of entirety. "Honestly, Joey," Mrs. Beetles had sighed as her head lurched in time with the movement of Tobey's tiny arm. "You and Wallabee did the same thing."
"All babies do," Joey mimicked in a high voice, shaking his head and rubbing his tense neck. He eyed the toddler in his lap, running his palm over the messy dark-hair that covered Tobey's head with a frown. The baby, after his grandmother released him from her hug with kiss to his jelly-sticky cheek, stumbled over to his uncle. Ignoring the scowl from his father's younger brother, Tobey settled himself with giggle in Joey's lap.
Now, a little while later, Tobey was quiet, leaning against the chest of his uncle, sleepy from his day of causing mayhem. Occasionally, he would gurgle to Joey about the images flickering on the screen, speech slurred with inexperience. Sometimes, he would tilt his head backward to stare at the older boy with wide, green eyes.
It was sort of cute, Joey decided as Tobey let out a yawn. The baby snuggled into his sweater, his little hands playing with the fabric. He was mumbling quietly in his drowsiness, humming softly to himself.
Okay, so maybe Joey had been a bit too hard on the little guy. He just wasn't used to the excitement, the happiness that radiated from his mother at having a such a young child in the house. Maybe he was little —
"'I wuv koncle."
The declaration was a whisper, barely audible underneath the noise of the Rainbow Monkey special. Joey blinked, his attention shifting from the dancing monkeys of the television to his nephew with surprise. "Two-bee?
The baby was already asleep.
"Uh, mum?"
Mrs. Beetles, nearby and washing dishes in the kitchen, smiled to herself. "Yes, Joey?"
His voice was embarrassed, timid as he spoke, careful not to wake up his nephew. "How long were Kuki and Wally goin' to be gone?"
end notes; family love is precious, and so is tobey though, in my personal canon, he grows up into a douche who is in deep dislike with his sister even if he loves and protects her. he wanted to be the only child. :C
