Summary: Brennan his hit with some devastating news, and her world crashes around her. Booth is there to offer love and support.

Dr. Brennan stood by the window of her apartment, peering out over the city. A hot tear slid down her cheek, and she wiped it away bitterly. As hard as she tried, she could not evade the wrenching sob that escaped from her throat. She covered her mouth with her hand, and sank to the floor, slouched over in sobs.

There was a knock on the door.

She glanced over at the door, but didn't make any effort to answer it, hoping whoever it was would give up and leave. The doorknob started to turn. A familiar face looked in, and called her name. "Bones? You here?" He said, and walked inside. He had not yet seen her huddled in the corner. He caught a glimpse of her out of the corner of his eye, and turned to face her. Seeing her tears, he quickly walked over to her, and knelt down to eye level.

"Temperance…what is it?" He asked, just above a whisper. He reached out and grabbed her hand. "You can tell me…"

She sat there, looking down as if to hide her already falling tears. She took a deep breath, and finally her gaze met his.

"Russ…he…" She put her hand over her mouth, and a sob wrenched at her once again. "Oh God…"

"What is it? What did Russ do, Bones?" He asked, tenderly brushing the hair off her face.

"He's dead." She said, mutedly. Tears stained her cheeks, and made her mascara run. Her lip quivered slightly. "He was killed in a car accident today." The words came between slight hiccups caused by the hard sobbing that had taken place. More tears sprung to her eyes, and spilled down her cheeks.

With one quick motion, Booth took his partner and friend into his arms. He moved in such a way that she was partially on his lap, and she wrapped one arm around his waist, burying her face in his chest. One hand gripped his shirt for dear life. The sobs that escaped from her throat were the noise that one only hears in the most devastating of times.

"It's okay…I'm here…shh…" He rocked her back and forth gently, trying to ease her pain. Her pain became his, and he found himself fighting back tears as well. "It's going to be alright…"

"He's….he's gone." She whispered, in tears. "I can't do this…" Her body shook, and she passed out in his arms.

He looked down at her, and his heart broke for her. He gently stood, picking her up in his arms, and he carried her to her bed. He gently laid her in it, and then laid down next to her, facing her. He gently stroked her hair, and held her hand.

"I won't leave you…" He whispered. "You're not alone…"

He looked at the face of the woman he loved. Somehow, some way…he would make this alright. He would be the strength she needed. He made a decision in his mind that he would never leave her side again. That her pain would never be too much for her, because he would ease it. He made a choice to be her guardian. He made a choice to never let one day go by without her knowing how much he loves her.

"Lean on me…" He whispered to her sleeping form.
