A/N: This takes place at the beginning on Chosen. It's what should have happened. I never understood why Angel didn't fight. ------------ "You've never left me to fight by myself before. I know I owe you more then I could ever pay you back for. But I need you. I can't do this alone. I can't do this with the Potentials. I can only do it with you. Please. For just this one more fight. Be by my side."

Angel looked away for a second, staring at a mirror on the wall. It stared back, blank as it always would be with him in front of it. He sighed and turned back to look at Buffy.

"I don't want you to worry about me. We all need you to be concentrated." The words sounded feeble, even to himself and he knew she wouldn't believe him. He didn't even want her to. He wanted more then anything to be with her until the very end. But he needed her to put everything in the battle and not waste even a second on him.

"Angel, please." Buffy said, choking on her tears.

For a second Angel debated whether to answer or simply nod. He made up his mind quickly and pulled her into a kiss. He could feel Buffy almost squeak with joy against him but didn't let her pull away long enough to even smile.

When he finally remembered that she, unlike he, needed oxygen he let her go. She stumbled backwards a little and almost glared into his eyes.

"Thank you, Angel."

A/N: This is a one-shot. There will not be anymore unless the inspiration starts dripping out my ears again.
