His Mission
Sirius Black knew it was a trap before he set foot in the Department of Mysteries, but he didn't care. He couldn't save James and Lily. He couldn't stop Peter from betraying them all. And he couldn't be there for Remus during the years of transformations. He was certainly going to save Harry. It didn't matter what happened to Sirius as long as Harry lived. He owed it to James and Lily after not being able to protect him all of these years.
Sirius' eyes immediately zeroed in on Harry. He knew the rest of the Order of the Phoenix would help the other kids. All he had to do was protect Harry. Sirius ran to him. "Harry, stay with me!" he ordered.
Harry looked fearful, but Sirius was sure he was listening and would follow his commands.
Together, they faced off against Bellatrix. Harry wasn't ready for this dangerous of a battle. He was skilled for his age in Defense, but he was nowhere near the level of a Death Eater. He kept one eye constantly on Harry, ready to shield him if a stray spell came his way.
He was so focused on Harry, that he wasn't paying enough attention to his own battle against Bellatrix. A spell came towards him and hit him square in his chest, knocking him into the veil.
"No!" he screamed.
The last thing he saw was Remus grabbing Harry and holding him back as Harry tried to lunge in after him. Hopefully, Harry would survive. If he did, then Sirius' death was worth it.
