As the shadows grew longer you saw Thorin halt the company for the night. He gestured for each member to take up their task and designated the ponies for you. Not wanting to annoy him you agreed and led the ponies out of the clearing and into the nearby wood. It wasn't long till you realised you were no longer alone.

Turning you saw Kili making his way through the trees towards you. He stopped, leaning against a tree and watched curiously as he saw you attempt to tie the horses' reigns to the nearest tree. You ignored his presence and continued to loop the horses reigns together, however, the rope kept slipping through your cold, numb fingers. Hearing a supressed laugh behind you, you turned in annoyance to see Kili holding back a smile.

'What is it?' you asked, slightly irritated, it had been a long tiring day and your muscles had started to ache. You didn't have the patience for one of his poor taste jokes. Kili smirked and walked over to you. He took the ropes gently from your hands, looking into your eyes and with a smile on his lips he effortlessly tied a secure, complex knot.

He handed it back to you. cupping your hands in his, the warmth was comforting from the cold, biting winds. However, as if noticing the contact he stepped briskly away blushing slightly.

'Never thought you'd need help with such a simple task' he joked as he backed towards the camp, his eyes fixed on you, a small smile playing on his lips. You didn't want to rise to his bait so turned your back on him focusing on tying up the rest of the ponies. You tried to mimic Kili's hand movements with the rope but it fell through your hands once again. You let out a frustrated sigh, there was no way you would go and ask for help, you weren't willing to injure your pride. But it seemed you had no other choice, you couldn't allow the ponies to escape. As you turned back towards the camp you stumbled and fell into something soft and leathery, before falling to the floor, pulling the object with you.

"Watch out!" a voice groaned. You opened your eyes to see Kili splayed on top of you, his hair falling in your face. Propping himself up on his arm and catching your eye he smiled, causing you both to laugh, embarrassed. You looked down and suddenly noticed the pressure of his body on yours, his breathing fast. You looked up and saw him looking at you in a peculiar way. His eyes were longing, searching. He shifted his weight to lift his torso off you though his lower half was still pressed firmly against you.

The moment was tense as both of your breathing slowed and you continued to hold his gaze. His eyes travelled to your lips as he bit his softly. You moved your head off of the ground slightly in anticipation; you now understood his meaningful look. He too moved closer when suddenly you heard the sound of leaves rustling and sticks crackling under foot coming closer.

Quickly, Kili rolled off of your body and got briskly to his feet, brushing the mud from his clothes. Presently, Bifur came through the trees. He stopped at the sight of Kili, mumbled something in Dwarvish to him and gave you a puzzled look before shuffling away. Kili glanced at you as you still lay stunned on the ground. He held your look briefly, he smiled and winked, before turning and following Bofur into the darkening wood.

You sighed deeply stunned and looked up into the sky, did that really just happen!?
