Summary: Naruto contemplates the pain of rejection.

When someone close to you dies, it's sad, but you can live on knowing that they wouldn't want you to throw your life away; that even though they're gone, you were friends, lovers, whatever—till the end. The pain you feel comes from knowing that they're gone and they can never come back. But when someone flat out abandons you—tells you that you're their best friend but they're leaving anyway; throwing you out like yesterday's garbage—the pain is different. At first glance it may seem the same. Either way they're gone, right? But when you're abandoned like that the pain is so much worse. The knowledge that every second of every day they are out there somewhere choosing to stay away,choosing to reject you and everything you had together, hurts more than if they had died. The knowledge that they're out there, rejecting you every waking moment, is what hurts the most and that's why I can't, no, won't—will NEVER—forgive that bastard.
