Percabeth Fanfiction (Based on a Scene from Catching Fire)

Waking up to midnight screams became a quite common experience on the Argo II.

Hazel and Piper rushed to Annabeth's cabin and shook her awake.

"Percy" she gasped. Annabeth glanced around her room, "where is he? I need to see him! Is he okay?"

"He's fine. He's fine," Hazel reassured, "He's asleep ri-"

"No!" Annabeth interjected, "I-need-to-see-him." Her sweat-coverd face was filled with determination.

"Just a second," replied Hazel, "I'll go and him."

Piper stayed with Annabeth as Hazel left the room.

Hazel tip-toed across the hall into Percy's room. The door creaked open, and a narrow light shined onto Percy thrashing in his sleep. "Percy" she said just above a whisper.

Percy automatically shifted his weight from the bed onto two wobbly feet. He ran his hair, and said with a fake calmness, "Is anything wrong?"

"ummmm… no" Hazel blushed at seeing Percy in only his boxers. She glanced away and chanted to herself, I have a boyfriend. I have a boyfriend. "It's just," Hazel's mind went blank, "Annabeth wants to see you," She spit out.

Percy made his way to Annabeth's cabin, and Hazel and Piper returned to their beds.

Percy sat himself on the corner of Annabeth's bed and turned to her.

"Nightmares?" he asked. Annabeth nodded. Percy wrapped an arm around her. "It's okay. I have them too." He paused, "What about?"

Annabeth nudged him, "What do you think, Seaweed Brain?"

"Yeah, I guessed so. just try not to think about it. It's all over now." Percy stood up.

"Wait," Annabeth interjected, "Where are you going?"

"I was planning on going back to sleep," said Percy in a drowsy tone.

"Can you say with me?" Annabeth asked.

"Umm… yeah, sure."

So, Percy set up a mat of blankets and pillows, and he laid it next to Annabeth's bed.

For the next several hours, the Son of Poseidon and Daughter of Athena laid in near silence. Conversation was short and between long intervals, but neither slept. They couldn't. Images and memories crept in the shadows. Trust was wavering, and through their eyes, the world my never be the same.
