Angel's Lullaby
Midnight moonlight shining through the curtain lace
Joseph entered the suite he shared with his wife well after the clock struck twelve. He was seriously regretting volunteering to help Shades organize security for the ball tomorrow night. However it was the younger man's first time, and his guidance had been received with gratitude. His suite was dark, and if it weren't for the moon which seemed to be hovering just outside their window, he would have missed his wife's sleeping form altogether.
Paints a perfect picture on your perfect face
God, but she was beautiful. Curled up against the arm of the sofa, wrapped in the blanket that normally lay folded across the top, she looked as peaceful and innocent as a child. He smiled to himself and quietly went to change into his pajamas.
One sweet angel sleeping in my arms
Now dressed for bed, Joseph re-entered the living room. She stirred a little as he sat beside her, but quickly settled back into her deep sleep as soon as he pulled her to rest against his chest.
You are the promise I knew God would keep
Joseph was not yet ready to sleep, and he began to muse about just how long he'd waited for this. More than twenty years ago he'd come to work at the palace, after bouncing from job to job. The moment he was introduced to Clarisse, he knew where he would be for the rest of his life.
You are the gift, that makes my world complete
It dawned of Joseph just how lonely he was all those years before they'd found each other. He suspected that she had been as well, but they never spoke about it. There was no reason to, for they would never be lonely again.
And you'll never know how much I love you
Stroking a finger down her cheek, Joseph smiled at the way the moonlight shining in the window gave his wife an angelic glow. All the words in the world could never convey to her how much he loved her.
But I'll keep on telling you my whole life through
He had the rest of his life to show her though, and he smiled wider at that thought. There had been times over the years when he thought that this would never happen. He'd nearly given up hope, but not anymore.
Now I believe in miracles and you're the reason why
His faith in someone watching over them was stronger than ever now. Every morning when he awoke with Clarisse in his arms he said a silent thank you to whatever guardian angel was up there that gave her to him.
As he shifted to make himself more comfortable, she snuggled in closer to him. Holding her tightly, he kissed her gently and proceeded to drift off to sleep.
So dream on, while I sing you
My angel's lullaby
A/N: Boy, am I glad this song is short. It was getting tough to do a paragraph per line towards the end. I'm not sure I really like this, although I don't DISlike it. Maybe sometime when I'm more awake I'll revise it. However, please review, I love checking my mail and getting reviews they make me happy. Thanks, Lizz Oh yeah, the song is Reba's not mine.
