If you could have it all…would you do it if it meant saying "Sayonara" to the one you love?

Tough decision. Especially if "have it all" involves family…and living.

Trigger

His hands trembled violently, the shiny, black gun in his hands, pointed at the teenage girl in front of him. They were the last two on the battlefield, and if he could kill her, he could have everything.

Everything.

But the look in her eyes only made it worse. Who she was only made it worse. How he felt only made it worse.

It was like an uncontrollable hurricane of emotions, whirling away inside of him, taking control of his heart and his brain.

But yet, even standing in the face of death, the girl had a small smile plastered to her face. It was obvious it was pained—not only was it visible by the tightness of the smile, but her eyes were slightly watery and sadness swirled within those two, deep blue skies.

His only other friend had already been snatched away from both him and her; gone in an instant. He was carried away by the cold, brittle branches of a winter tree, the searing hot arms of a demon, the lying, deceiving arms of an angel of death.

He couldn't bring himself to pull the trigger and get it all, but he couldn't bring himself to put the gun down. She seemed to notice his predicament and silently waited for his choice that determined both her fate and his. Her hand was just resting less than an inch above the handle of her sword, ready to use it whenever she needed to…though she hoped it wouldn't have to come to that.

He remembered all their times together—waiting under a tree next to each other, hoping for the downpour to end soon; finding stray kittens and taking them in; buying ice cream cones for each other on hot Saturdays; running to school together hastily on weekdays; sleeping over at one another's house every chance they could. He couldn't help but feel the tears prick at his eyes as well.

His hands began shaking so badly that the gun nearly fell out of his hands, to fall into the ankle-deep puddle of muddy water he was standing.

"Mei," he whispered in a barely audible voice. Mei could feel the tears stream down her dirty face silently now. But instead, he'd done something she didn't expect.

He turned the gun around and closed his eyes, mouthing one last goodbye, before he finally did pull the trigger.

She watched in horror as his lifeless body fell to the ground, a hole in his chest. His red eyes were still open, staring at her sorrowfully.

"Don't cry…Mei…" he muttered before his eyelids slowly fluttered shut. "Don't…cry…"

Mei, herself, dropped to the ground as uncomfortably warm, salty tears poured out of her eyes like the rain that the clouds seemed to be dumping onto her and the lifeless body.

"H-Hugh…" she sobbed. When they grabbed her by the shoulders and lifted her up, she shrieked and flailed around, refusing to leave her best friend's body behind. But they took her away, far, far away, away from the place she wanted to be most.

And now, after supposedly winning it all, she can't help but remember how what she wanted most was snatched away from her in an instant…just like her brother was.

Sigh…I love writing depressing stuff…

Normally I wouldn't think to put the playable characters as siblings, but I was like "screw it" and did it anyway.

But…thinking of Hugh dying…makes me want to cry for months… ;; HIS ADORABLE FACE WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY

Commander Sky, out!
