Major Samantha Carter was strong, brave, and heroic.
She'd fought valiantly against all manner of enemies.
She'd looked into the faces of pure evil and never blinked.
No one doubted her integrity.
Her insides were two parts iron smelted with one part concrete and frozen solid for good measure.
She didn't run from responsibility.
But today, as the knocking on her door continued, Sam groaned.
She'd promised to run with Jonas.
But even heroes sometimes stumble.
Even the bravest of women sometimes rolls over and pulls the blankets over her head.
The world was no more.
Sam slept peacefully.
Deservedly.
