"Alvin," I called out shyly from the bottom of the staircase.
"Yeah?" he called back from the sofa.
I cautiously ventured forward, "What are you watching?"
"Wipeout."
I hopped up on the couch, "Mind if I watch with you?"
He smiled dreamily, "Sure, Britt!"
I walked over to the cushion he was lying on and lay down beside him. After a few attempts at the big "red balls" a Severe Thunderstorm Watch bulletin floated above the peoples' heads in bright orange letters. "Looks like we might get a storm tonight!" he said with laughter in his voice.
"Yeah… But it's only a watch so it probably won't happen, right?" I asked concerned.
"I guess, but if it's a watch that means the meteorologists saw something badin the storm cells."
I quickly drew my paws together and said a light prayer, "Please God, let this storm pass over us."
He perched his body up with his elbows and brought his head close to mine, "What's wrong?"
I gritted my teeth momentarily before looking up at him, "I'm afraid of storms…"
He rubbed my back gently, "It's alright, Brittany. I won't leave your side if it does happen, but like you said: it probably won't."
As soon as he spit out the final word, bold, red, letters flashed across the screen.
SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING!
He hopped off the seat and raced across the room to the television. I tilted my head in wonder as he took a DVD from the shelve and placed it inside the player.
"What'd you put in?" I asked as he hopped back up to me.
"Full House."
I laughed, "But you HATE that show!"
"But you love it," he said putting his arm around my shoulder as we sat down.
What ever happened to predictability? The milk man, the paper boy… Even TV. How did I get to living here? Somebody tell me please, this whole world: CONFUSING ME!
I giggled at Alvin's bored expression, "Alvin, if you want we can watch something you prefer."
"No, in case you haven't noticed Brittany, since I put this in you haven't said a word about the storm."
As he said that a flash of lightning filled the house, "I don't think it's the show, Alvin. I think it's you…"
He sat there, confused for a long moment before replying, "Me?"
I smiled, "Yes, you."
"GUYS!" shouted a scared Theodore. "WE'RE UNDER A TORNADO WATCH!"
My heart began to race and my eyes grew wide, "A t-tornado watch? A-are you sure?"
"YES!"
"Theo, its fine, can you please not mention it around…" he trailed off, gesturing his head towards me.
"Oh… Okay, bye Alvin, bye Brittany," he said scurrying up the stairs.
Alvin moved my hair out of my eyes gently before speaking, "Brittany? Are you okay?"
"A t-tornado watch…"
"Hey, it's alright. Nothing's going to happen… I promise."
"But… but what if we have one?"
He sighed, "Then I won't let you go."
I froze, did he just say that? "Really?
He sighed again, "If I wasn't for real, would I do this?"
The last thing I saw was him moving towards me as the lightning flooded the room. My eyes were forced shut as his lips met mine. As we pulled apart, butterflies flew around my stomach.
"I love you, Brittany."
"I love you too, Alvin," I said with my nose pressed up to his.
