A Sleepless Night
"Mama, potty." Jackie heard in the middle of the night one night. She opened her eyes slowly and saw Johnna standing next to her bed.
"You have to go potty, do you need mommy to help you?" Jackie asked her.
"No." The little girl replied with a smile as she toddled off to the bathroom.
She came back a few minutes later.
"Mama, me seep with you?" She asked.
Jackie was too tired to argue with her so she smiled and said. "yes".
The little girl happily crawled up onto the bed.
"Hi dada." Johnna said with a smile but she didn't get an answer.
"Dada seepin." She told Jackie.
"Yes he is, don't wake him." Jackie told her.
Johnna snuggled under the covers and soon after fell asleep.
"Mama." Jackie heard around an hour later.
Jackie opened her eyes.
"Hi buddy." Jackie told Houston.
"Mama, it dark outside, me seep with you?" He asked.
Jackie wondered what being dark outside had to do with anything, it was dark outside every night obviously, but she just smiled and said "Ok."
Like his sister, Houston happily crawled up onto the bed and under the covers.
"Donna here." He told Jackie.
"I know she is sweetheart, go to sleep ok?"
"Ok mama."
Jackie smiled.
"I love you little buddy." She told her little boy.
"Me love mama." He told her back before closing his eyes.
"Mama me cold, me sleep with you?" Jasmine said a while later as she gently shook Jackie to get her to wake up.
This is getting ridiculous Jackie thought to herself silently.
"Do you want mommy to get you another blanket?" Jackie asked.
"No, me sleep with you." Jasmine said, and without waiting for Jackie to tell her it was ok she too crawled into bed.
It was really crowded.
Not even a half hour had gone by when Jackie felt something touching her eye. She opened her eye and saw Karlie standing there grinning at her.
"Hi Karlie Lou, what are you doing?" Jackie asked the smiling toddler.
Karlie just grinned at her and tried to crawl into her parent's bed but her little legs were too short.
Jackie tried not to laugh as she helped her up onto the bed.
Nick woke up just minutes later, Houston had been crowded out by his sisters so he had crawled up on Nick's chest for room.
What the hell? He thought silently to himself.
He looked over and saw all three of his girls in the bed as well. He then looked over at Jackie, she was wide awake, Karlie had somehow managed to turn around in the other direction and as a result her foot was in Jackie's face. Jackie offered Nick a small smile.
"Why are they in here?" He whispered as silently as he could so he wouldn't wake any of the kids.
"I'm not sure what's going on tonight, they all decided it was sleep with mommy and daddy night tonight I guess." Jackie whispered back.
Nick smiled, he wasn't very comfortable but what could he do about it?
Jackie didn't appear to be the least bit comfortable either with Karlie's foot in her face.
"My goodness Karlie's feet stink, and I don't know why, she just had a bath." Jackie told him quietly.
Nick chuckled but then Houston stirred so he quit.
Needless to say Nick and Jackie didn't get anymore sleep the rest of the night.
Oh the joys of parenting, but Nick and Jackie wouldn't trade it for the world.
