Click click, click click. The sound of his heavy boots on the cold concrete was slightly comforting. His thick jacket helped combat against the winter, but every so often, a gust of wind would get under it. Eridan shivered, tying his scarf just that much tighter. He walked even faster, small flakes getting into his dark hair and turning to watery prints beneath his feet.
He gave a small smile to the air as he neared his destination. He paused under the awning for quite a while, trying to get snow off his coat and out of his hair. He decided it wasn't worth the trouble, and entered the coffeeshop without a second thought. He greeted the barista warmly, and, after getting his coffee, turned towards his dearest friend.
He offered a smile and a wave, but Feferi's hands only tightened around her own drink. She gave him a tight-lipped smile as he sat down, giving him a small wave with her wrist.
"Sorry I couldn't be here sooner, it was of such short notice, but I don't mind in the least." He smiled, but it soon fell. She looked so nervous.
"Something wrong, Fef?"
"Hm? Oh, nothing's wrong, I promise! And don't worry about it, you weren't too late!" She grinned too quickly, and it was easy to tell there was something on her mind.
"Fef?" He promted, setting his coffee aside. He was worried about her; if it was something that gave Feferi anxiety, it was something big.
She looked at him, eyes distraught. She acted as if she were about to speak, but stopped short, letting her head fall against her chest dejectedly.
"I'm sorry, Mister Ampora." She lifted her head up, a sad smile adorning her face. "I can't do it."
He was confused. Mister Ampora- weren't they past formalities?
"I thought I could do it; a nice, fixer-upper side project, but I can't." She only gripped her latte tighter. "So, I'm finished. That's how this works, right? I'm done, Mr Ampora."
"You're done? With what?"
"Our friendship. It's gotten too much for me to handle. I'm sorry, but I'll have to say farewell." She stood from the shared table, sipping her latte. She waved at him, smiling cheerfully. "This is best for both of us. Goodbye, Mr Ampora."
Eridan only had time for an airy 'Farewell, Miss Peixis' before she was out the door. He glanced at the barista, confused, but she avoided his gaze, busying herself with another customer. Eridan turned, staring glumly into his coffee.
