"Misao."
He watched her back stiffen in response. The slight tremor that rocked her body would go unnoticed by any eyes but his.
"Going somewhere, Misao?" He drawled.
She turned around then, facing him. He was leaning against the wall lazily, his dark eyes hidden behind his bangs. His arms were crossed at his chest, his posture relaxed. He shifted and met her eyes, and she gulped visibly, his stormy eyes following the rise and dip of her slender throat at the action. She swallowed again, the inexistent lump suddenly very recurring. Her hands fisted on the silk of her kimono, clutching hard enough to leave persistent wrinkles on it.
"Ah Aoshi-sama!" She tried to act normal. She really did. "I… ah.. I was just going to make some tea."
"Tea?"
"Yes. Tea. Would you like to have some?"
"Tea?"
Her eyes snapped back to his slightly amused once at his tone- it was low, it was silky, it was inviting. But there was nothing tender about the look in his eyes- if anything, anything at all, it was dare. Dare to defy him, dare to let him have the chance of luring her into his trap again.
"Yes. I'll have some. Thank you."
He smiled but there was no teeth, no gratefulness, just a trace of dark humor and she watched transfixed, as he pushed away from the wall and disappeared in the hallway.
Misao stood outside his door trying to control the pounding of her heart, she gripped the small tray tightly with one hand, her bony knuckles turning white and the small cups clicking together as she raised the other to slide the door open. There was no need to knock, they had gotten past that long ago.
Steadying her nervous self, she inhaled and exhaled deeply as she set her tiny foot inside the threshold of his room and slid the door shut behind her. He swallowed her scream with practiced ease as the porcelains crashed to the ground with a loud clatter.
Outside the clouds shifted, illuminating the dark shadows that danced ominously on the transparent paper door.
