Here is a little one shot that I couldn't get out of my head. Warning, there be angst!
Dean Winchester could not believe it. He was back here again. He did not expect for himself, Sammy and Cas to come here after Dean killed Death, but here they were. Purgatory. They were constantly hunted, and, as Dean had aptly put it after returning from Purgatory the first time, "Sometimes, it felt like 360 degree combat." He wasn't wrong. Sam was the first to die. He was killed by a Wendigo of all things. After all that Sam had done to help the world, he died at the hands of a Wendigo. It nearly killed Dean to see his little brother killed. Sammy was his responsibility. He failed. Cas kept him going. Kept him moving. They had heard rumors of another rift in the seam. They fought their way towards it. They were ambushed. Outnumbered. A Leviathan stabbed cas in the stomach, and he lay there dying. Dean slaughtered the rest of the monsters as if he still had the Mark. As he was killing the last Leviathan, it shoved a hand into Dean's side, but before it could do anything else, Dean killed it. He stumbled over to where Cas lay, struggling for breath. Dean picked up his fallen Angel blade, and sat down next to Cas.
"Dean...p-please…" Castiel held him, kissed his forehead, and drove the Angel Blade into Cas' heart, killing him. Dean could not believe how far gone he was. Before the Mark, before Abaddon, he could never have done it. Ho could never have killed Cas, but he had. Dean couldn't stand it. Dean felt a searing pain in his arms as Castiel's wings burned. He looked down to see the imprints of Cas' wings, and Dean sobbed. He was alone. He no longer had the strength to stand, so he lay there. Thinking. Slowly, all color was leached out of the world, and it was if somebody had hit the mute button on the world. It was eerily silent. He closed his eyes, and shuddered out his last breath.
Begin Wayward son.
Carry on my wayward son,
Dean's eyes snapped open, and looked around. He was in the Impala, alone. He was parked in the driveway of a house with a white picket fence. He vaguely recognized the house. Was this…..Lawrence?
There'll be peace when you are done,
A couple walked out of the house and headed towards Dean and the Impala. The woman had blond hair, the man black with traces of grey. They were John and Mary Winchester, Dean's parents. As soon as he realized, he gave both of them a bone crushing hug.
"Come on in Dean. Everyone's been waiting for you. Although, they were hoping not to see you for a while" Mary tells him, and Dean looks at her in disbelief. Everyone? Dean looked at John.
"It's true Dean. Everyone. Sam, Kevin, Charlie, Cas, Gabriel, Adam. Everyone," John says. Dean looks between the two of them at the mention of Adam, and John looked sheepish.
"I know all about Adam. It's time to get everyone up to speed. C'mon. There's pie," Mary says, laughing.
Lay your weary head to rest.
That seals the deal for Dean, and he follows the two into the house. John and Mary go in, and so does Dean, but before he walks in,he turns back, and looks at the Impala, remembering all the good times, and he let out a single tear, for he knew he was in heaven.
Don't you cry no more.
Fin.
(A.N: Wow, that really took a lot out of me to write. I had a friend who is also into Supernatural read it, and when she finished, she was crying a little. I said to her, So, how about it? He laughs a little, and says to me, How about I punch you in the kneecap? We had a laugh. Hope you enjoy!)
