The Inbetween Ending: Don't Feed the Plants!

What happens when a young writer tries to write a better ending script for one of her favorite movies? This! Seymour and Audrey live, but the Audrey IIs still take over the world! Includes the awesome song "Don't Feed the Plants" with a slightly more optimistic ending. Rated T for lyrics, suspense, and all that other stuff that makes "Little Shop of Horrors" so good.

Author's Note/ Disclaimer: This fiction is supposed to be an alternate ending to the "Little Shop of Horrors" musical film. I wanted to create an ending where Seymour and Audrey didn't die like the film ends, but still contains the cut song and some footage from the song "Don't Feed the Plants!". Please note that it is in script-format like a screenplay, so read it as such and don't flame -you've been warned! Also, I'd recommend that you be at least familiar with the song used in this fic and the original 1986 film ending before reading this, (it can be found on youtube) so that it makes sense in your head. Lastly, I do not own any characters or any lyrics from "Little Shop". Thank you and enjoy!

Don't Feed the Plants!

(Audrey II has just been destroyed in the electrical explosion. Audrey looks on at the wreckage hopelessly sad, believing that poor Seymour has also perished; but what's this? A silhouette emerges from the dust, it's none other than Seymour! They embrace, both glad to be alive and together again, then without turning back run off presumably out of Skid Row.)

(The camera panes down towards a small pile of rubble. A man's hand dusts off something –a surviving leaf from the plant! We see the man's face as that of Patrick Martin who Seymour ran off earlier. He takes the leaf and grins with satisfaction. A dramatic drumbeat ensues as the camera focuses on Chiffon, Ronnette, and Crystal who are hiding in an alley behind Patrick. They begin singing:)

Ronnette: "SUBSEQUENT TO THE EVENTS YOU HAVE JUST WITNESSED,

SIMILAR EVENTS IN CITIES ACROSS AMERICA,

EVENTS THAT BORE A STRIKING RESEMBLANCE

TO THE ONES YOU HAVE JUST SEEN BEGAN OCCURING.

OH, OH, OOOH..."

All three: "SUBSEQUENT TO THE EVENTS YOU HAVE JUST WITNESSED,

UNSUSPECTING JERKS FROM MAINE TO CALIFORNIA MADE THE ACQUAINTANCE OF A NEW BREED OF FLYTRAP,

AND GOT SWEET-TALKED INTO FEEDING IT

BLOOD..."

(As they sing, the screen changes to a store shelf where Audrey IIs are being sold by the dozens to unsuspecting idiots who push and shove to get their hands on the little plants.)

All three: "THUS THE PLANTS WORKED THEIR TERRIBLE WILL,

FINDING JERKS WHO WOULD FEED THEM THEIR FILL,

AND THE PLANTS PROCEEDED TO GROW AND GROW..."

(The next scene is outside Audrey's dream home at night. Lights are on inside as the camera sweeps through the window focusing on Seymour who is watching TV on the couch.)

All three: "AND BEGAN WHAT THEY CAME HERE TO DO,

WHICH WAS ESSENTIALLY TO..."

(Audrey sits down beside Seymour and he changes the TV channel on the beat after "to".)

All three: "EAT CLEVELAND!"

(An "emergency alert" flashes on the screen, he changes channels again.)

All three: "AND DES MOINES!"

(Both Seymour and Audrey get a nervous look on their faces as yet another emergency alert flashes on screen. On the dim black and white screen a reporter is standing by a sign that reads: Cleveland city limits. -See footage-)

All three: "AND PEORIA! AND NEW YORK!"

(The reporter points frantically to his right. The camera zooms over in that direction and on the words: "New York" an Audrey II comes on screen.)

All three: "AND WHERE YOU LIVE!"

(Audrey and Seymour scream, though we can't hear it. We can only hear the music to the next portion of the song:)

Chorus: "THEY MAY OFFER YOU FORTUNE AND FAME,

LOVE AND MONEY AND INSTANT ACCLAIM,

BUT WHATEVER THEY OFFER YOU DON'T FEED THE PLANTS!"

(Scene cuts to footage of the Audrey II's takeover of New York City. Two plants cause utter chaos in the streets and one even crashes through a building.)

Chorus: "THEY MAY OFFER YOU LOTS OF CHEAP THRILLS,

FANCY CONDOS IN BEVERLY HILLS,

BUT WHATEVER THEY OFFER YOU DON'T FEED THE PLANTS!

LOOK OUT!

HERE COMES AUDREY TWO!

LOOK OUT!"

Audrey II (voice): "HERE I COME FOR YOU!

Chorus: HERE I COME FOR YOU!

HERE I COME FOR YOU!

HERE I COME FOR YOOOUUU..".

-Music and Footage Interlude. A/N: you have to watch the "Don't Feed the Plants" sequence to see all of this:-

(The plants makes their way toward the statue of Liberty. They cause mass destruction on their way. At last one of the plants reaches the statue and climbs it in a "King Kong" fashion and takes its place as "King of the World". The scene fades back to Seymour and Audrey's TV where they are watching still horrified. Their eyes are glued to the screen as some plant tendrils come closer and closer as the plant on the screen laughs.)

Chorus: "HOLD YOUR HAT AND HANG ON TO YOUR SOUL;

SOMETHING'S COMING TO EAT THE WORLD WHOLE!

IF WE FIGHT IT WE'VE STILL GOT A CHANCE,

BUT WHATEVER THEY OFFER YOU,

THOUGH THEY'RE SLOPPIN' THE TROUGH FOR YOU..."

(With every beat the vines get a little closer to grabbing Seymour and Audrey, until at last on: "Though they're sloppin' the troph for you" they catch on and look around in terror.)

Chorus: "PLEASE WHATEVER THEY OFFER YOU,

DON'T FEED THE PLAAANTS!"

(They get entangled on the last verse. The word "plants" signals for a new Audrey II to break through the wall and lick its lips hungrily. Seymour and Audrey look at each other hopelessly and sing:)

Seymour and Audrey: "WE'LL HAVE TOMORROWS..."

All: "DON'T FEED THE PLAAANTS!"

(The plant cackles maniacally as the camera zooms into the depths of its mouth before fading completely and text reads:)

THE END?!
