Bound, But Unfettered.
I've been called the strongest, most powerful man on Earth. I am unfettered, in that I can lift an entire island out of the earth's crust, ripping it out by its very roots. Yet, I am bound, in that I can never release my strength on a human. I can never hug my mother as hard as my emotions demand; I can never kiss the woman I love with all my passion. Should I lose that control, even for an instant, they would be crushed in my arms, killed instantly.
I am unfettered, in that I can fly around the world in moments. I am bound, in that I can never leave this planet again. I am bounded by the borders of the yellow sun that nourishes me and blesses me with my immense powers.
I am unfettered, in that I can see anything, anywhere on Earth. I am bound, in that I cannot escape the horrors and evils Man faces and creates. I am unfettered, in that nothing escapes my hearing – the faintest cry for help; the whispered sighs of lovers; an old man's last breath. I am bound, in that I cannot escape the calls for help and need.
I am unfettered, as I will never feel the ravages of disease and age, nor death. I am bound, in that my heart will die with the ones I love. A little piece of Clark will pass with my friends and loved ones.
I am unfettered, as one day all remains of Clark will be dust in the wind, a shadow of memory.
I am bound, as someday all that will remain will be the hero, the suit, the symbol, and the powers.
I am unfettered, yet I am bound.
