First of all, thank you SO much to for making a category for this webcomic: The Garden, http:/ thegarden. thewebcomic .com/. I really appreciate it and it means a lot to me – so again:

Thank you very much .

Disclaimer: I do not own the webcomic The Garden. I make no money from this.

Notes: Just a quick jot I did to explain in my mind how the three of them just glommed onto each other so fast in the story – a possible explanation – and it may be true for Karen – who knows.

Please enjoy.

Alone Before You

The demon sat alone in silence in his cell. Nothing perturbed the solitude of this place – he didn't think anything ever would. Until the walls began to shake and the side of the wall burst inward in a spray of dust and rock debris.

"Oh, hey, I could have sworn this was supposed to the next hallway."

It had been ages since he'd seen another like him – another para-human – this one's classification would be angel.

"Well gee, can you give me a hand here? You want out or you gonna sit there like a lump all day?"

The alarms would sound soon if they hadn't already. Despite his rough manner, the para-human was aptly classified – he had brought hope of escape. He had been totally alone before now.

"Which way to the bloody exit?"

She had no idea where she was going, with a stupid grin plastered on her face – it was second nature to smile. Being a human, she was mostly free to wander around the human facilities – including the laboratories.

The alarms had sounded a while ago but no one had really said why beyond some escaped para-humans. It didn't matter too much. She was alone. It didn't feel right – but as long as she kept smiling it wasn't so bad.

She could be happy even if she was totally alone. She was smiling wasn't she?

She spotted them before they saw her – the two para-humans – a demon and an angel – beautiful black and white wings respectively. The demon stayed silent – but the angel let out a yell when she approached them.

She hadn't meant to sneak up on the angel, but she hadn't really thought about it. She was just happy someone was there.

He was rude – he didn't want to hide in her house –

"It's PINK! NO WAY!"

But still he was there. Even if she was surrounded by other humans… this felt right. There was someone else now.

She wasn't alone anymore.
