CHAPTER 1: Don't Test Me
"God, could you shut the fuck up for five seconds?"
"I would if you weren't a dick all the time."
"Drop dead, Princess."
"You first, Asshole."
Clarke Griffin, A.K.A. the Asshole's sister's best friend, snaps while rolling her eyes in disgust. Bellamy Blake, the Princess's best friend's brother, scoffs while his eyebrow twitches her way. Clarke's in a black tank top with checker pajamas pants on, her long blond hair is in a messy bun on top of her head. Her face is cover in a black face mask but Bellamy could still tell it's the person he hates more than anything. He's standing a few feet away from her in gray sweats and white socks, he has no shirt on giving Clarke another reason to hate the ground he walks on. His black short curly hair is a mess but that's nothing new. Bellamy takes a few steps toward her before noticing her eyes wanting to trail down his exposed chest. Smirking he leans near her ear and whispers with the smuggest voice she's ever heard.
"Take a picture it'll last longer."
"Go to hell."
"As long as you're not there."
Just like that the two begin a whole new argument without really finishing the last one. They stand near the fireplace arguing. The two had come out of their bedrooms and downstairs for some reason but the moment they started fighting the reasons they had disappeared. They had gone downstairs two hours ago, that's how long they been fighting about meanless things. They're fighting was so loud through the two hours that their roommates had come downstairs and into the living room to try to shut them up. Obviously, they haven't made any progress. Lincoln, Bellamy's best friend and his sister's boyfriend, sits on the couch exhausted in defeat. He's wearing a plain white shirt and gray sports shorts over his tan skin. Octavia Blake, Bell's little sister, is pacing impatiently while trying to stay awake. She's in a silk black robe with her long black hair in a loose braid. Raven Reyes, the girls' best friend since college, is standing next to Octavia while biting her nails as their argument gets louder and louder.
"Oh my god, this is unhealthy…"
"You're telling me. Lincoln, do something."
"He's your brother."
The group mumbles to one another as they watch their friends like a Tv show. They've tried everything to get Clarke and Bellamy to stop fighting. One by one they all slowly gave up and now are just waiting for them to end it themselves so the rest of them can get some sleep.
It's late at night, too late for them to be fighting as loud as they are. The neighbors are probably awake from their yelling but they should be used to it by now. The gang moved in together the moment they graduated college, it's been almost a year since then and nothing has changed since the day they lived here. Hell, nothing has changed since Clarke and Bellamy met. The two fighting don't even notice their friends watching them, they're too wrapped up in their argument to notice.
"Oh, shut up, Blake. You don't get to judge me."
"Princess, I know you better than anyone, I get to judge."
"Please... You don't know shit about me."
"I know the shit you and Finn did while he was still with Raven-"
Clarke punches him in the jaw without even letting him finish his sentence. The hit was going to leave a mark on him, her hand she used is now shaking with rage. She is going to need ice later but it was worth it, his expression is priceless. Raven sends Bellamy an annoyed expression as she stops biting her nails. Octavia rolls her eyes at her brother once she stopped pacing. Lincoln sighs knowing they're going to need to call 911 if this fight doesn't end this second. No one is shocked she punched him since he went over the line with his last comment. The unspoken line that no one dares to cross in the group, it was just something you couldn't speak of out loud. Especially to Clarke or Raven. Raven looks down to the floor before walking upstairs in humiliation from his words. She didn't want to hear anymore and she knew this fight wouldn't die down any time soon.
Before Clarke and Raven met they were both dating Finn Collins. Well, technically, Raven and Finn were engaged when he and Clarke began to date. Obviously, Clarke didn't know he was engaged and Raven didn't know yet that he was cheating on her. Raven and Clarke only had one more class to graduate, it happened to be the same class. Not long after that, they became good friends. It didn't take long to figure out he was seeing both of them either. They ended up breaking up with him together and getting over it together. Which somehow made them, even more, closer than before. It took them a while to get over it, they both had loved him. After they finally got over him no one brought it back up for their sake. So for Bellamy to say it out loud after all this time was big. At that moment everyone in the room knew hell was going to break loose. A few minutes before they thought it couldn't get any worse but now they stand corrected once 's staring up with a murderous look in her eyes, Bellamy adjusts his chin from feeling a bruise forming. Clarke puts her hands through her hair as she tries not to cry, she looks up at him once again and whispers in a disgusted voice.
"Fuck you. I hope you go to hell for saying that in front of her."
"Oh no, don't tell me I am the first to hurt the princess's feelings."
"Don't go acting like you're innocent." Clarke snorts while spitting out in venom, "Let's not forget the countless one-night stands, I sleep right next to your room and let me tell you something. Their orgasms are FAKE! Oh, how about the time one of your bimbo girlfriends found you fucking-"
"Fuck off." He takes a threatening step towards her and yells, "She wasn't a bimbo!"
"Apparently she was since she stayed with you after that and then caught you again sucking another girl's face-"
"Like you aren't guilty of bringing one night stands home, did that faze start before or after having an affair with Finn behind Raven's back?"
"Why you little piece of shit- At least I didn't know they were together! You were in a relationship and still cheated!"
"So my hands are a little dirty? She was a one night stand! How long were you fucking Finn while him being engaged?"
"STOP IT! BOTH OF YOU!"
Clarke and Bellamy were in each other's faces, practically nose to nose when Octavia gets up and yells at them to stop. They turn to her wonder why she decided to jump into the argument all of a sudden. The two shouldn't be surprised though since Octavia always tried to get them to stop yelling. It's always the same pattern for the roommates even when they didn't live together. Clarke and Bellamy will fight then Octavia tries to fix it. Lincoln was always there to stop anything physical that might happen to the two arguing. Raven usually got stuck watching them fight or in the crossfire. Tonight is no exception of that.
"That's it! We've all have had it! You two are going to therapy!" She announces before storming to the stair and calling out, "Raven, set an appointment by tomorrow!"
"Babe…" Lincoln's now up from the couch as he leans to whisper in his girlfriend's ear while watching Clarke and Bellamy emotionless faces. "Are you sure that's the best idea… For them…"
"You two are going to therapy and fixing this mess!" Octavia nods and points at the two closest people in her life, "I don't know why you hate each other but it must stop! Nobody will live to see their next birthday with you at each other's throats like this."
Everyone in the living room waits for a response from Griffin and Blake, Raven slowly comes down to see why it's suddenly quiet. It's never really quiet when Clarke and Bellamy are in the same room. Clarke and Bellamy share a look no one can read, which makes the gang even more on edge. They were so similar but no one dared to point it out to them since it would be like asking for a death sentence. Abruptly, Clarke and Bellamy burst out laughing like that haven't heard anything funnier than that moment. Bellamy is the first to speak between them as he tries to stop laughing.
"I'm not going to therapy."
"Yeah, fuck that." Clarke nods agreeing with him while checking her watch, "Listen… It's getting late, if you don't mind I want to get to bed."
"Same. Goodnight."
Bellamy yawns as he realizes it's one in the morning. Raven groans to herself at the top of the staircase, they been fighting all day and just like that they stopped. Lincoln and Octavia stand in confusion of how those two can go from trying to kill each other to normal people in five seconds. They both make their way to the stairs calmly until when actually start going up the stairs. That's when they begin to shove each other out of their way. They're shoving, squirming and pulling each other on the way up the stairs. Just like they can go from monsters to normal they can also go from adults to kids within seconds. Bellamy tugs at her hair to get in front of her making her growl and shove him behind her while snapping.
"Bellamy, just move. Ever heard for lady's first?"
"Yea... And if you see one let me know."
"God, you're so full of yourself, move out of my way."
"How Octavia deals with you I have no idea."
"You're one to talk. Mr. I'm too good for leftovers."
"As long as the leftovers aren't made by you."
"My cooking isn't that bad, last time I checked you couldn't even make Ramen noodles. And another thing-"
Octavia and Lincoln watch as they go at it again in the middle of the stairs. Octavia rubs her forehead in defeat while Lincoln goes up the stairs and tries to pull them apart. Raven tiredly walks back into her room knowing this could take a while. The two couldn't even go all the way upstairs without fighting, this was so unhealthy and none of them knew how it all came to this. Clarke and Bellamy had so much history together that sometimes they bring up stuff that happened when they were kids. Sometimes they brought up things that the gang had no idea what they were talking about. Octavia and Clarke grew up best friends, even when Bellamy pestered Clarke to no end they stayed in a loyal friendship. Throughout high school and college they argued, everyone thought they would grow out of it, maybe even go on a few dates but when they got out into the real world that wasn't the case. The fighting may have gotten even worse since then and they're adults now.
Lincoln and Octavia started dating in college, they were the lovebirds of the centuries. However, while they were happy Clarke was dating girls and Bellamy was a man whore. Clarke went back to guys when she met Finn, Bellamy at that same time was trying to keep a steady relationship. When they finally graduated college Bellamy's girlfriend realized he been sleeping with all his old girlfriends and Clarke realized Finn had a fiancee. Bellamy obviously got dumped and started paying more attention to his sister and his job instead of chasing after women. Somehow college made Clarke and Bellamy hate each other more. They both had hate towards each other that much was clear but while the gang had no idea why Clarke and Bellamy knew precisely why. Some things that happened between them was left unsaid to the gang but they both won't ever forget what happened. Suddenly a banging sound fills the house starting from where Bellamy, Clarke, and Lincoln were arguing. Raven runs to the stairs worried as hell while Octavia looks up at the scene on the stairs. Clarke and Bellamy look down at Lincoln, who is at the bottom of the stairs now in pain. Someone must have pushed him when they were yelling, when Octavia runs to him the two start yelling about who pushed him. She helps him up and yells at them with no room to argue.
"This needs to stop! You two might end up killing one another!"
"Oh, he would like for me to die. Just knowing he wouldn't have to see my face ever again."
"Well done, Griffin! You figured out my master plan." He barks at her sarcastically while leaning against the wall. "Me wanting you dead."
"Listen!" Raven shout before they can start another fight while getting in between the two and announcing, "You both care about each other-"
"Hell, No-"
"I'll die first."
"I can arrange that-"
"LET ME TALK!" Raven shouts through the house, "This isn't normal or natural, we're getting you a therapist to help or fix this. You two are stuck with each other as long as you're in Octavia's life. So I suggest we fix this problem before someone ends in the hospital." She finishes with a smile plastered on her face since she was able to talk without being interrupted.
"Okay, I'm sorry for pushing Lincoln but I'm not going to therapy for this," Bellamy sighs in frustration while waving at Clarke, "We can get along."
"Yeah, Raven." Clarke nods while rubbing her face tiredly, "We've just been on edge this week."
"Sure…" Octavia snorts with her famous eye roll, "More like on edge when you two are near each other."
"Well, we have to do something about this," Raven demands between the two, "Lincoln fell down the stairs because of this mess."
"How about he moves out?" Clark raises an eyebrow annoyed, "Problem solved."
"Hell no, princess. I'm her sister." Bellamy gives her a daring look. "If anyone is moving out it's you."
"Well…" Lincoln claps his hands knowing how this is going to go, "I'm going to bed before I have to deal with you guys again."
"You act like we can't do anything but argue!" Clarke rolls her eyes and stomps upstairs, "We're adults for god's sake."
"Damn right." Bellamy follows her up to his room, "Hurry up, Princess."
"Don't call me that."
"Whatever you say, your majesty."
"Fuck you."
"You wish, sweetheart."
"Pig."
"Brat."
They both spit names at one another until they get to the second story. Going to their bedroom doors they slam it at the same time. After that, the noise in the house dies down into silence. The three roommates just stood there watching them in disbelief. Lincoln and Octavia head up to their room when they're sure another fight won't form between their roommates. Before Octavia goes into her room she stops at Raven's and asks quietly.
"So will you sign them up with someone by tomorrow?"
"Yup, I can't live like this anymore." Raven answers while going to her doorway to talk quietly with her, "Why did they even agree to live in the same house."
That was the question everyone kept asking themselves when they started arguing.
"Get out of my way."
"Make me- OUCH! What the hell, Griffin?!"
"You said make me, Asshole."
"Just shut up."
"I rather not since it ruins your day."
Clarke smiles sarcastically as she sips on her coffee tiredly, it's the morning of the fight on the stairs. Bellamy could tell she was tired from how late they stayed up, it makes him smile while grabbing a mug of coffee to go. She's in her blue work scrubs, half her hair is pulled back and she's wearing a little bit of makeup but not much to notice. She's the head nurse in the Ark hospital ever since her mother became the head doctor. It's probably why she got a job so fast after college because everyone knows her mother around here. Bellamy's wearing a suit without a tie. His white shirt is button up but a few at the stop arent. His suit jacket, pants, and shoes are all the same color black. It's a little out of dress code for his job but his boss lets it slide since he's the head Detective in their city. There are only about three other detectives in the city that are as good as him in their profession, they all work in the same police station. When Bellamy moves closer to Clarke to make his coffee she pulls away while sending him a bored look. He rolls his eyes and mumbles without looking at her.
"Always the princess."
"Just with you."
"Morning…"
Octavia yawns when she makes her way downstairs in her work clothes. It's a simple black button up long sleeve shirt with nice black pants and heels. She has silver several necklaces, rings, and earrings. Her makeup is a little dramatic but of her it's normal. Octavia works at a record store called Arkadia, she'sreally an actress but she hasn't starred in anything big. She's been on a few shows and movies but was never one of the main characters. She doesn't get many auditions so she is trying to become the manager for the time being. Lincoln's at the coat closet getting his jacket when he sees her. When he gets a good look at her he can't help but say.
"You look out of it this morning."
"Yeah…." She sighs while slowly going to the kitchen as she mumbles, "I couldn't go to sleep because of these two."
"Sorry about that," Bellamy walks toward the counter to get his car keys and sunglasses, "But you know how she always wants things done her way."
"Sorry, your way is stupid," Clarke glares at him then checks her watch curiously, "Shouldn't Raven be up? It's almost 8:30."
"Oh shit, really?" Octavia checks her phone in panic, "I need to get going."
She runs over to Lincoln to give a goodbye kiss quickly before hurrying to grab her purse and out the door. Lincoln smiles at her warmly as he goes to the counter to get his bag as well. Lincoln's a high school teacher of Ark High School for 11th graders. He's wanting to be a college professor but he is too inexperienced. He teaches Physics and coaches for the wrestling team, plus he has an art club on the side of teaching and coaching. Clarke finishes her coffee and sets the cup in the sink while thinking out loud.
"I should get going too-"
"Shit, Shit, Shit, Shit."
Raven comes running down the stairs while trying to put on her work clothes. She almost falls halfway down the stairs, once she's down in the living room she grabs her toolbox on the coffee table. Raven's an Automotive Technicians Automotive Mechanic for Mount Weather Inc., she also dabbles in explosives there. Mount Weather INC is a very known company, it's known for their engineer work. Their headquarters is right in this city so the building is huge. She's already to the front door when she looks to her friends and smiles in guilt.
"Bye."
No one gets to say a word to her before she is out the door. Clarke tries to hold a smile in, she seems to always be running late. Finally heading to the front door all the girls went through Clarke grabs her keys and her wallet. Looking to the guys she smiles at Lincoln, not Bellamy, while saying.
"I'll see you tonight, Lincoln. Asshole."
"Princess."
"Fuck-boy."
"Slut."
"Okay, children."
Lincoln shakes his head while he makes Bellamy head to the garage with him. Bellamy's grabbing things here and there that's his. He has a habit of leaving all his thing in the kitchen when he gets home from work. When Bellamy and Lincoln are about to go into the garage they head Clarke shout near the front door.
"Man-whore!"
Bellamy begins cursing after she gets the last word in, she then shuts the door with a smile. She goes to her car and sees her neighbor, Wick, about to get into his car. He's wearing a nice business suit. Wick's the hot neighbor next door Raven always drooled over. Octavia and Clarke would consider him a player but Raven doesn't care, he has been job hunting since he quit his old job. His old girlfriend was his boss and when they broke up it wasn't on good terms and it wasn't worth staying at the job. So here he is going to interviews. She waves hello to him and smiles in return before calling out to her in a neighborly manner.
"Good Morning."
"Morning."
She answers back while getting into her car. Clarke looks down to get her seat belt on but not a second later does she jump when she thought Bellamy almost hit her. He was trying to pull out of the garage but she was still parked in front of it. She honks at him while starting up the car angrily. Hearing him honk two seconds later she honks right back before pulling out. She flips him off and drives away too annoyed to even look back. She drives to her job, it's the one place Bellamy usually is never at but could be if he keeps pissing her off. The Ark Hospital.
Octavia: When are you getting off work?
Clarke: Now, why?
Octavia: We need to talk. Hurry home.
Clarke groans at Octavia's texts, every time she says they need to talk it's never good. Throwing her purse into the passenger seat Clarke starts the car. Last time they "Needed to talk" Bellamy moved in. She scrunches her face at the thought of Bellamy but at least she doesn't have to socialize with him at work. The only thing she has to deal with at work is her mother. However, today her mother took off since it was Marcus Kane's, her mother's boyfriend, birthday. She didn't celebrate it with them since she wasn't very fond of Marcus. Marcus was her dad's best friend until he died a few years ago. When she found out her mom and he were planning on going out after two years of her father passing away she freaked out. Now she's fine with it but she still doesn't give them her blessing. Once she drives up to her house she can see that everyone is already home. She parks the car and walks up to the front porch. Clarke could already hear yelling behind the door. Opening the door she slowly walks down the hallway to find Bellamy yelling at their roommates. He turns his head the moment he notices Clarke and shouts her way.
"This is all your fault!"
"Like Hell it is! Wait…" Setting her keys and bag on the table she asks confused, " What's my fault? What's going on?"
"Why don't you sit down…" Raven begins to say since she knows Clarke won't take this well, "We-"
"Clarke, don't bother sitting," Bellamy demands while glaring at Raven, Octavia, and Lincoln who are all sitting down on the couch together, "Because we're not doing it."
"Just let us explain!" Octavia growls at her stubborn brother as she gets up from the couch, "We just want-"
"No!" Bellamy points at her threatening, "We're not a married couple with problems."
"You kind of are…" Lincoln sends him a guilty look, "Think about it, man."
"Can someone tell me what's going on!?"
Clarke shouts irritated in the middle of their living room, this is not how she wants to spend the rest of her day. Bellamy and Octavia were standing like they were about to fight. When the two siblings do get in a fight, which is rarely, it's no talk just fists. Raven becomes more and more annoyed at the situation and Lincoln looks like he is in need of a beer. Bellamy turns to Clarke seriously and exclaims like everyone in the room has gone mad.
"Clarke. They were serious last night. They're saying we need to go to therapy together like we're a basketcase or some old married couple."
"What?" Clarke snorts like the idea is completely ridiculous, "We're adults, I think we would already be going to therapy if we needed it."
"You two been fighting the moment you laid eyes on each other 18 years ago. It's unnatural you need to-" Raven begins but Clarke doesn't let her finish.
"Oh. My. God. No, we don't." Looking at her friends in betrayal Clarke snaps in shock, "Bellamy and I barely fight."
"Like hell you don't."
"We're not going."
"Oh, you're going!"
"You can't make us. We're grown ass adults."
"All of you! Stop it." Everyone looks to Lincoln who finally is standing up now, "Let's make a deal-"
"No."
"Absolutely not."
"Fuck No."
"Just let me talk," Lincoln sighs while hoping he can get his idea out without any interruptions, "If you two can spend a week without arguing, yelling, hurting or snapping at each other then we won't mention a therapist to you guys ever again. However, if one rude comment comes out of one of your mouths then you both go to therapy. Together."
"A week?"
Bellamy repeats unsure while looking to Clarke nervously, it's easier said than done and they both know it. Octavia looks at her man like he's crazy, Raven nods in an understanding of what Lincoln's plan is. Clarke bites her bottom lip before tilting her head while holding Bellamy's gaze. The room went quiet as everyone stares at the two people who usually would be yelling right now. Octavia glares at her boyfriend but he sends her "what else can we do" look. To Octavia, this is an intervention for the two not some kind of deal between them all.
"Clarke?"
Bellamy speaks up sternly wanting to know what she wanted to do. Looking up at him and then to the three standing in front of them she grabs his shirt and pulls him upstairs in frustration. He would have shoved her the moment she grabbed him but as her hips sway the way upstairs all he could bring himself to do is smirk and watch. The three downstairs share a look, silently wondering what they're doing. Once they reach the top of the steps Clarke asks him in a hushed whisper nervously.
"Do you think we can pull this off?"
"Not fighting? Of course." Bellamy snorts while not understanding what the point was of whispering back to her, "It's only for a week, Princess."
"Don't call me- Nevermind. Listen…" Sighing she watches him seriously before asking honestly, "How many times do we yell at each other?"
"Uh... " He puts his hands on his hips as he thinks for a moment before answering in defeat, "Every time we see each other."
"See! So how are we going to stop for a fucking week, Bellamy!"
He rolls his eyes at her dramatic expression, it could be that hard. Not thinking twice he forcefully grabs her head and kisses her hair. The kiss was quick and uncomfortable but it's the nicest thing he's done to her in a while. When he pulls her away he kind of shoves her back in the process making her growl. Forcing a smile Bellamy waves his hands while saying like the kiss proved something.
"See what I did? It's called being nice, now we can do that for a week. Easy."
She glares at him knowing he's not going to see a reason to this madness. Looking around and thinking Clarke knows they really don't have a choice. If they don't take the deal then their friends will continue to pester them about going to therapy. This is their best shot of putting this whole therapy idea into the trash. Storming back down to the others where the others are still standing Clarke waits for Bellamy to follow. When everyone is in the living room Clarke sighs while glancing at Bellamy before to the others as she declares.
"A week it is then."
"Okay, what are the rules?"
"Rules: Can't yell, bicker, argue, or disrespect each other." Raven announces while listing them off her hand, "You can't have any form of argument with one another."
"It lasts a whole week, 7 days." Octavia adds while looking to anyone with a watch, "What time is it?"
"6:54 P.M."
"Okay, so next Thursday at 6:54 P.M. if you haven't broken a rule you won't have to go to therapy. Deal?"
Lincoln explains quickly while raising his hand for them to shake. Raven and Octavia watch the two across from them intently. All they wanted was the yelling and fighting to stop. He wanted to hurry up and get it over with, everyone knew they couldn't last a week. Hell, he bets they couldn't even last a day. Everyone knows this, it's nothing new. For Clarke and Bellamy however, it is. Bellamy shakes his hand first and Clarke does the same after. As Clarke and Lincoln shake hands she announces determined.
"Deal." When the room becomes unbearably quiet Clarke claps her hands tiredly before adding, "I don't know about you guys, but I need a beer now."
"Of course you need-" Bellamy begins to say while rolling his eyes but stops when realizing what he's about to say and instead puts on a fake smile, "That's a great idea."
"I know it is." Clarke returns his fake smile with one of her own, "That's why I said it."
"Well, since you're getting one for yourself…" Bellamy begins to say with a smug look while moving to play with the end of her hair, "Why don't you be a good Princess and get me one too."
"I would..." Clarke spits out politely while trying not to let him win this new game they began, "But I'm craving a corona and we're out. Why don't you be a good boy and get a 12-pack for us?"
"Sure." Growling through his teeth Bell goes to grab his keys from the counter. When he's halfway to the front door he stops and turns to her with a shit eating grin, "First, I want my goodbye kiss."
"Excuse me?! You son of a…"
Getting up in his face Clarke's about to go off on him but stop, they were dumbasses for making that deal with Lincoln. Shutting her mouth and calming herself down Clarke smiles thinly at Bellamy. His grin makes her want to backhand him but instead, she takes one for the team and kisses him. Kissing him quickly on the cheek Clarke can feel his smile growing even wider if it's possible. She pulls away fast while biting her tongue, glancing to their friends Clarke finds them intently watching with bug eyes. When she looks back at Bellamy he raises an eyebrow and moves to go get her beer. When he's at the door she calls out to him so she can at least get the last word.
"Get tampons too while you're out. Make sure they're super too. "
"As long as my Princess waits patiently."
Bellamy answers back without looking her way, no matter what else she says they both know he won this round because of that kiss. Her eyes go wide at his last remark and before she can say anything else he walks out the front door. He shuts the door happily as she storms up to her room like a child. Octavia, Raven, and Lincoln who have been quiet this whole time look at one another in pure fear. Hearing Clarke screaming in her room Raven can't help but blurt out.
"This is going to bite us in the ass. Just wait."
