Xirysa Says: So… What? I'm on a bit of a writing spree, it seems… Oh well. If you're reading this, then I know you're not complaining. But I WILL complain if you don't review. So read and review, got it?

Homecoming

What was home, she wondered as she sat in the tall grass of the plains.

Many had told her that home was where the heart lay. But she already knew that. She leaned back and reformed the question in her mind.

What was home to her?

She let her mind wander and furrowed her brow in concentration.

Lycia, maybe? She wrinkled her nose in distaste. No, not Lycia. Many of her friends lived there, and she personally had nothing against the country as a whole, but… She didn't think that she'd be able to live their her entire life. Happily, at least.

Fisting her hands in the soft earth, she closed her eyes and narrowed her search.

Caelin, then. Caelin, the land of her mother's birth, where she had gained (and lost) so much… And although it was her birthright, she knew she could never love it like Grandfather did. True, she did hold some affection for it in the depths of her heart, but… No. She would never be a part of Caelin, and Caelin could never be a part of her.

Her fingers curled over a blade of grass and a thought suddenly struck her. Sacae! She laughed at how long it had taken her to think of it.

Sacae. Sacae was home. Sacae was the wind and the sun and everything warm and good in the world. Sacae was where she was born, where she was raised. Ah, Sacae…

She let her gaze sweep across the sea of grass and stifled a sob. It was all so achingly familiar! The warmth of the sun on her skin and the breath of the wind in her hair… Even the grass that tickled her bare legs stirred memories long forgotten. To her, it was paradise on earth.

And yet…

She huffed and rested her elbows on her knees. How frustrating! Something was missing, but she couldn't say what.

A noise behind her caught her attention and she turned around, half out of habit and half because she knew who it was.

She stood up and smiled as he treaded clumsily through the grass toward her. He still hadn't mastered the art of walking silently through the plains, but he was improving every day. Her heart always swelled up with pride whenever she watched him.

He stopped and looked at her curiously, and she was broken out of her thoughts at the sound of his voice.

"Is something wrong, Lyn?" he asked shyly, hesitantly, affectionately.

She shook her head and gestured silently at the plains. "Just thinking about home."

He looked at the horizon and smiled that half-crooked smile of his that she loved so much. "I was once told that home was where the heart lay." He looked back at her. "Sounds nice, does it not?"

She didn't say anything.

She just opened her arms and was welcomed home.

Xirysa Says: Once again… Another bunch of random crap that I really don't have any excuse for. And it's mushy to boot! Hehee… This is what I do when I stay home from school when I'm sick: instead of studying for AP tests and AP tests and EVEN MORE AP TESTS… I write 'fic. Plus, I feel bad for not writing in the FE section anymore. I'M SORRY. Uh… Feedback and criticism is appreciated like usual!
