Vietnam

Saya came to consciousness abruptly. David stood above her, a now empty syringe in his hand. Everything was a red haze to her. She was so confused. There were shapes, dozens of shapes, all around her. She couldn't tell them from human or chiropterans. They were all looking at her expectantly, waiting.

Saya reached out, grabbing her sword from beside her, where she'd left it when she started her long sleep. The red haze covered everything, a slow panic was creeping up on her. What was going on? Where was she? Why wasn't Haji here? The shapes began to speak but the words made no sense. They began to shout at her, someone grabbed her arm and shook her yelling in her face. Demanding something from her, she couldn't understand. The panic set in and she began swinging her sword, aiming it at any shape that came into view not distinguishing between friend or foe, these men and creatures were all her enemy. All of them must be destroyed. Screams and yells rose up around her, human cries and the howls of monsters. Neither penetrated the fog in her mind.

She continued to hack through everything as blood flew, covering her and everything around her. The ground was slick with the crimson flowing liquid. Shouted words tore through her mind. The haze prevented her from understanding but she recognized the voice.

"Saya! Saya stop!" It was a male voice. It sounded so familiar. But still she swung her sword at everything within reach.

Then she slipped. Falling into a crimson pool. Her breath came in heavy pants. Her muscles ached with tiredness. The haze was starting to fade. She was coming back to herself, and a strong lethargy was spreading through her. The haze slowly dissipated. And she looked around her in horror. Haji stood not far off holding a bleeding hand that was already healing. Women, children, and men littered the field, soldiers and slain chiropteran were laying in heaps. She looked at the ground where small rivers of blood flowed, looked at the sword in her hand. Was this her? Had she done all this? A small cry escaped her lips.

"Saya it's ok." Haji said as he started to put his arms around her, to pull her to him and comfort her.

"Haji what have I done? Haji look at what I've done! Nothings ok! Nothing will be ok, I can never be forgiven for the lives I've taken." Saya whispered through trembling lips, as she jerked back, away from Haji's touch.

Saya pushed away the lethargy that had come over her. She got to her feet quickly and dashed through the feild, throwing her sword to the side. She barely managed not to trip on the bodies that littered the battle feild. Everywhere she looked was blood, blood, and more blood. She fell to her knees cradling her head in her hands. A horrific scream tore through her throat and she clasped, unconscious. Haji caught her gently in his arms before her head could hit the ground.
