Chapter 1
Bella's POV
I was hit with a strong sense of nostalgia as I pulled in the driveway of 775 K Street. Although I talk to Charlie weekly on the phone, it has been years since I've stayed in the house I shared with him. As I sit in the driver's side of my rental car, I notice nothing has changed with the appearance of the house, and with that, I find comfort. I grab my purse and begin unloading the trunk of my car and carry my bags in the house. I find the spare house key under the faded blue welcome mat and let myself in.
After I took my belongings to my room I glanced at the clock, it's only half passed noon, my flight had landed three hours earlier than planned, and Charlie isn't due home until six tonight.
I look around the kitchen and seen that Charlie had recently went to the store, I smile at myself and know just want to do to pass the time, I'll cook dinner and have it waiting for Charlie when he comes home.
I decided on homemade pizzas and once they were in the oven, I fished my phone out of my purse and called The Blacks. As I listened to the phone ring, my mind wandered to Jake... I wonder if he is back home.
A voice on the other end snapped me back from my thoughts.
"Hello?"
"Hi Billy, its Bella,"
"Oh! Hi Bella, I didn't know you would be home so soon, how are you?"
"I'm fine, I was wondering if you would like me to have Charlie pick you up when he gets off of work, and eat dinner with us? He'll pick you up around 6:15."
"That sounds great Bella, see you then."
I send Charlie a quick text telling him about dinner and to pick Billy up.
I had just finished setting the table when Charlie and Billy pulled in. I took the pizzas out of the oven and made three plates, and sat them on the table.
"Bella!" Charlie yelled cheerfully with his arms open.
"Hey dad, I've miss you so much", I say choking back tears that threaten to spill over.
He wraps his arms around me and squeezes hard, I've never felt more at home.
Once we finish eating I clear the table, I pour myself some wine and get two beers out of the refrigerator.
"So, Bella how have you been? I haven't seen you I a while, Charlie said you graduated in the top of your class from John's Hopkins."
"Yeah, I actually start my first year internship Monday at Mason Gen. It's about thirty minutes from Olympia."
"Oh really… Jacob has a job at Mason Gen, maybe he can show you around."
I was clearly shocked and nervous, it was written all over my face and Billy noticed. It has been years since I've seen Jacob, we both left home for college and lost touch. My stomach fluttered at the thought of seeing him again...
"I haven't talked to Jake in so long, how is he?" I asked.
"He is doing pretty great, he asked about you a couple months ago."
"Ohh.." I start to blush. "I'll have to get back in contact with him"
We sit at the table and chat for a bit longer before Charlie and Billy get ready to leave.
"I'll be back soon Bella, lock the door" Charlie instructs.
"Okay, I'm going to clean up the kitchen and head to bed soon. Be careful."
Once the men leave I turn to the table and start to pick up my wine glass and their beer cans when my eyes catch something written on the napkin Billy had:
