A/N: Little introspective tag to the first episode in the new season. Yay new season!

Spoilers: For 2x01 Shadows

Disclaimer: I own my own shadow, haven't even seen the shadow of the rights to Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

His brain was a scrambled mess. He had a hard time expressing himself, and finding connections like he used to between the ordinary and the extraordinary.

Clarity came at night. In the quiet hours of the day, when he was alone.

He knew she wasn't there anymore, that she had gone. But during the day the lines became blurred and fuzzy, there were too many impressions to sort through. Sometimes imagining Simmons there beside him made him feel whole again, and kept him calm, and sometimes he forgot that she wasn't actually there. His mind conjured up such a lively image of her, that it was like she had never left at all.

She always looked the same, hair up in a tight ponytail, a pair of jeans and a blue sweater over a white shirt. It had to mean something, he just didn't know what. Couldn't associate the picture his mind presented him with as the day he realised her worth to him, the first time he realised he could lose her, and the first time she almost left him for good. Couldn't see how ironic that he now, after she had actually left, was stuck with precisely this image of her.

For the most part he let himself forget. Sought out the blurriness to remain sane. Couldn't cope with the hurt on top of everything else.

He just needed to relearn some skills, to focus and be patient.. with himself... Baby steps that was it, that was the way to go. He would figure out cloaking... he was nearly there. There was just something missing, a percentage of the whole. His head trauma would be the obvious one to blame, but a part of his heart had wandered away with Simmons. And it left him incomplete, broken.

She hadn't told him her real reason for leaving, the others thought she was quitting, giving up and abandoning them, but he was still her best friend in the world and even in his state he could see that he was the reason for her leaving. Her guilt was consuming her, and though he would have much preferred her staying, he didn't blame her for going away.

They would find each other again. Someday.

His mind, body and soul might have been shredded and ripped to pieces.. but he persevered, he kept fighting, and that's what made him brave, made him a hero. Though he might not even realise it or see it himself.

A/N: The title sounds a little like a weather forecast.

Psyched to see where they're gonna take everybodies storylines this season.
