They kissed under a full moon. Both masked from one another. They had fallen for an unknown creature, and they couldn't care less. He was hers, and she was his. The night went like a fairytale. Everything was perfect. But just for a second's moment, when a servant called for the beautiful girl, and she had turned her attention towards the servant boy's message. As it wasn't too important, she had turned back to face her beautiful creature, but he had long since disappeared.
Her highness left the party. It lost its magic when He left. Sulking in her chamber, she wrote every detailed feeling she felt that night. As time past, the pink head fell into deep slumber, still with a mask on her face.
Outside at the bedroom balcony, a shadowed figure stood. The doors flew open, cold wind blew in. The girl jolted up. The shadowed figure stood in front of the wide-eyed girl now. It stepped forward, but hesitated in its step. Instead it took out a piece of paper from its sleeve. Stretching a hand past the girl to put it on the wooden table behind.
"Who are you?" the princess had finally come out of her shocked state, and was rather frightened by the stranger in her room. It didn't answer though. In a flash the creature vanished, ending behind her, it picked her up bridle style, and vanished into the night.
The very next day a maid came to wake Her majesty up, but was welcomed with an empty room with opened doors to the balcony, a piece of paper and Her highnesses royal mask.
…
She woke up into s dark damp place. There was no sight of a living person close by, only some rattling and echoes of dropping water.
"Drip-drop"
Total silence.
"Drip-drop"
The girl sat up, enjoying the radium. Eyes sealed in more darkness. A warm color formed through her eyelids, and she opened them up. A bright flame stood in front of her; she had to shut her eyes again from the sudden light. The figure holding the oil lamp let the girl get used to the glow radiating from the lamp.
After a moments time, the girl hesitantly tried to open one emerald eye. Slowly she let both of them open. As soon as she got used to the light, she noticed a man with a mask covering his whole face, except for the eyes. She stretched a hand to see if it was real, but the man snatched her hand before it could come near his face.
"Who are you?" the girl tried to look closer at the eyes, but there was nothing to see, only black soulless eyes. He stared back, pulling her arm closer, in the process she leaned in closer. There was something familiar with his eyes she thought, like in a dream. They stared at one another for a few more minutes, till he let go of her wrist.
"Wouldn't you like to know that?" he held the lamp close to his face; blowing thte little flame out.
