Darkened Eyes

Night crept its way towards the sky, attacking it silently with its deep colors. I stared on but couldn't keep my focus on any one thing, it was too distracting. I don't know how long I have been walking but it felt like an eternity with the rugged soles of my feet and the clumps of dirt that stuck itself unto my flesh. Though I don't mind the walking, I think to myself, I'm used to it now.

The cold night breeze filtered through my hair and I could smell the flowers around me. I decided to rest for now while it's peaceful and calm.

Out of the thick brush I spot something flicker its way around. My eyebrows raise not in fear, but in curiosity. Of course I had thought of monsters and wild animals but they wouldn't be this far into this dense forest right?

I see another flicker of inkiness dart through the shrubs behind me. This time I stood my guard and I slipped my dagger out of its pouch.

"Show yourself, foul beast!" I yell as manly as possible.

"I am not afraid of you..." I say mostly to myself.

My eyes whoosh back and forth, side to side, trying to look for whatever is out there. Suddenly, a flash of that same blackness shone in front of me, revealing a tall man clothed in all black. His eyes gleamed a menacing violet.

"You are but a boy with a spreading knife." His voice sounded muffled and rough, as though he was speaking through a cement wall.

"I don't need a great sword to strike a man down!" I retort back. I hated how my youth is often taken as ignorance.

He made a sound close to a chuckle, but more like the sound of beaten drums.

Slowly, he rose a lean arm forwards to me. I immediately tried to back away but a certain look in his eye beckoned me to stay.

"I'm not here to hurt you, child. Just out of mere curiosity I wondered what had stumbled into my forest." He said with a smirk.

"Your forest?" I said with emphasis, "This land isn't free to travelers or nomads? Surely not a single man could own such great land."

"This is my forest correct. Though it does inhabit creatures and the like, it's not often a human boy is found within its roots." He laid a hand on my head. I was but a few inches shorter than him, but he held the posture of a king.

"Get your hand off me!" I quickly swatted it away, avoiding his gaze.

"What is your name, boy?" He said unfazed.

"Well it's not boy, but it's Martzel*. Just Mar is fine...What about your name! The nerve you have to ask a stranger without introducing yourself!" I tried to look intimidating by puffing up my chest and clenching my fists but he simply smirked down at me.

"My name is Cynefrid Athanasius*. There, I have introduced myself now please, calm down Mar." He said with an exasperated look.

I looked down before meeting his eyes again. This time, with true concern I asked, "You called me human. If you aren't one, then what are you?"

I'm starting a new story without even finishing my previous one! Aaaa, but if you read my update on Silent Lovers you'd understand that I am- how'd you'd put it- a bit bored with it.

Also if you haven't figured out yet, Mar is male and yes this will be a homosexual relationship. There will be other characters but I cannot guarantee this story will be all homosexual couples straight through.

*Meanings of Names (if you found them a bit weird):

Martzel (mart-zel)-basque form of Marcellus; diminutive of Marcus

Cynefrid (sign-frih-d)-from Old English cyne "royal" and frid "peace"

Athanasius (ath-a-NAY-shus)-from the Greek name Athanasios which means "immortal" combined with thanatos, "death"

All the names are found on Behind The Name if you want to go in depth.
