Alright, so technically this is my ninth prompt for the 100 themes drabble challenge. Turns out it's the only one that's fanfiction (is that against the rules? Don't know, don't care) so yeah I thought it came out nice and was worthy enough of a post on . So, er, enjoy~!

"Race ya!"

Prompt #: 072. Rain.
Title: "Race ya!"
Word Count: 434.
Type/Pairing: Fanfiction; Oishi/Eiji
Rating/Genre: G/Friendship.

Summary: Rain provokes a playful Eiji.

There was no doubt about it. When the regulars has stepped out of the clubhouse, dressed out after a good afternoon's practice, the pounding water drops were as clear as day before their eyes.

It was raining.

At this Momo complained about how the rain would wet his bike as he rode home, Kaidoh called him an idiot, Ryoma rolled his eyes, and Inui went about calculating the percent of chances each of them might end up sick—oh, it was all the usual antics of the Seigaku team. It did take a while to calm down the riot before anyone started heading home, which sometimes proved to be a pain, but it was nothing that couldn't be helped.

As they say, never a dull moment.

"Come on Eiji," the vice captain urged the redhead who was trying to catch the falling rain in his cupped palms. "We should start heading out, now."

"Nya, okay!" the other chirped happily, bidding goodbye to the remaining members as he stepped out from the shade to join Oishi under his umbrella as they made their way to exit out of school grounds.

Everything was calm until they got to the front of the school, for the instant they hit the main sidewalks the energetic redhead poked his doubles partner with his right index finger and challenged, "race ya!" with a wide grin before taking off.

"Eiji, you're crazy, it's raining!" he reminded him. "You'll get wet!"

"Well, duh, that's the point!" he stopped in his tracks down the block momentarily as he hollered to his friend, "Come on, Oishi, have a little fun! Race me!"

Normally, it might've taken much more than that to convince Oishi that running in the rain could be fun but, for some reason, on the day of today he found the idea actually appealing. It was rain. It was harmless. What was there to be cautious about besides a small cold?

Oishi's face broke into a smile as he closed up his umbrella and challenged, "You'd better hurry then Eiji, I catch up fast!"

"Nya, I'm faster!"

And with that the two boys took off on full speed, their sneakers tearing through the puddles of the ground, laughing and screaming as the droplets of water drizzled onto their backs and faces. Their clothes were soaked through and they probably looked like morons as the cut through crowds of people with umbrellas that were desperately trying to keep dry, but neither of them cared.

They were emerged in a whole word of their own.

This was rain. This was them. This was youth.
