A/N: Ah, what can I say. Couldn't let Christmas Day go without doing a quick little something for my favourite team: Team Dark.
Half of Station Square was probably celebrating Christmas in the neon-lit rooms of Club Rouge, but Shadow was up on the roof, in the concrete and smoke, looking at the stars.
'Hey.'
After a moment, he turned back to see Rouge standing in the doorway of the elevator. She stepped out and padded over to him, joining him at the railing.
'Here. Diet Coke.'
'…Thanks.'
She leaned against the railing and looked up at the fading traces of starlight. 'What — does the Ultimate Lifeform not do Christmas?'
Maria had done Christmas. With sparkles in her eyes and excitement over running through the halls of Space Colony Ark, to a Christmas tree that Gerald had sent especially from Earth's surface. Excitement over opening gifts and giving ones that she especially picked out for Gerald and Shadow.
Shadow tracked an airplane flying overhead with his eyes. 'I don't care either way.'
'Oh really.'
Shadow took a sip of Diet Coke, then looked over at Club Rouge's owner. 'Did you come to throw a pity party on my behalf, or did you want something?'
She shrugged. 'You were missing out on the party. And I figured I may as well be nice. It's Christmas, isn't it?'
...Yeah. He guessed it was.
'But what does that really mean for us?' he asked. 'It's a human tradition. And GUN doesn't do holidays.'
'Doesn't mean that we can't decorate Omega with tinsel and sing off-key Christmas carols in our team's flat all night.'
'I don't sing.'
'You will, if you know what's good for you — '
Shadow's earpiece vibrated. He touched a hand to it, and sighed. 'We're back on duty. New mission.'
'Yeesh. You were right — GUN doesn't do holidays.'
Shadow grimaced, and tossed his empty glass in a nearby bin. 'You know them. Chaos forbid that some rogue terrorist cell ruins the general public's festive season.'
'You got that right.'
Rouge unfurled her wings, and after a moment of rocket engines increasing in volume, Omega landed on the roof with a shuddering crash. 'Do we get to burn things?' he asked.
Rouge and Shadow stepped onto the railing. 'That's an idea,' she said, 'We could make a Bombe Alaska later. What do you say?'
'I say "whatever," just as long as we get through this with our lives.'
Rouge laughed and jumped off the railing, and Shadow leaped after her, gun in hand, and the three of them took to the streets, to a soundtrack of silver bells and Christmas carols.
The End
A/N: Review welcome, and thanks for reading! Merry Christmas, everyone!
