"You are the greatest shinobi in the world!" Shikato yelled, knowing it was indeed true.
Even so, Naruto merely inclined his head to the side, denying this proclamation. Every shinobi in the world would agree that this was an inherent truth, yet the one subject to it was the one who denied it. In over a thousand years, no shinobi in the world had ever matched Namikaze Uzumaki Naruto in one-on-one combat, nor in sheer skill as a shinobi. People quaked in fear of his name, armies fall to their feet in order to spare his wrath, yet now, now after all these years, he denies what has always been true.
"So you say." Naruto retorted, befuddling his former apprentice. Did he not realize the severity of the situation, if it was not true that he was the most powerful shinobi alive? That a fourth god had risen? The dangers that such a shinobi presented would be enough to stress even the gods themselves!
Shikato finally felt his control over his temper slip, and snapped at his master. "Damn it, sensei! No shinobi born before or after the Fourth Great Shinobi World War, nor even the fall of Konoha, has ever surpassed you! No shinobi will ever surpass you!"
Naruto was calm, but a solemn look was in his eyes. "One already has, Shikato."
Finally, Shikato's patience thinned and the dam broke.
"Who? Who could possibly surpass you, the Tamer of the Bijuu? The Rokudaime Hokage of Konohagakure no sato, the Third God, the man who defined everything it meant to be a shinobi! Who could surpass you, overcome you, the greatest shinobi to have ever lived, the greatest shinobi this world has ever known! Tell me Naruto, who! ...Who?"

Author's note: Well, that's a nice little teaser, isn't it? To give background, one of the mottos that Naruto has over the years is that "The next generation shall surpass the former, and the former shall pave the way." I believe that a quote or ideal similar to this was stated in Naruto canon. Anyway, ever since Naruto was recognized as the Greatest Shinobi in the World, and for that matter, all time, he's been waiting for the shinobi who would one day surpass him.
