Didn't See It Until The End

InuYasha looked around the battlefield watching his allies fall. His gold eyes filled with pain knowing the betrayal of the one he thought loved him. Her cold, undead eyes glared at him mockingly as she stood beside the one responsible for this all. Naraku, that bastard. Her mate.
Tricked and hurt, broken hearted and loosing strength he knew this was probably the end, the last stand. Naraku roared in laughter knowing they couldn't win, not without Her. The one betrayed and lost so many months before, the one they could never find. She, who they had all thought to be useless, but in reality was the only one capable of stopping Naraku. Cruel words had broken her spirit, and wounds had sapped her strength. Never again would they see Her, and never could they win. She was gone, Kagome was gone.
But wait, an arrow glowing pale rose in color striking away so many demons. Is it possible? Is it Her? It is, it is Her! But why is He with Her? Why does He stand so protective, as if she is something precious, something to Him? Another hated one, another enemy of InuYasha's.
Their attacks combined, destroying the undead one and Naraku. InuYasha turns towards Them, wishing it not be true. That He not been the one to save Her, that He was not the one that now held Her.
"Why," he whispered softly, not wanting to believe, not wanting what he could see be real. She smiled faintly, a cold imitation of what once was and never will be again. "Because you all broke me, and he fixed me. Because you all saw me as Kikyo, and He saw me as Kagome. Because, He was right, and I am His now and for all eternity." With that she walked away, with Him beside Her. The one who held her love, the one who held when she was sad, angry or as she was now. Pregnant with His own child. She was Sesshomaru's now.
And only now did he realize how much he loved Her and how much he had lost.
