Special

I arrived early in the morning of our humble little home. The porch light was the only thing on; signifying that you were already in bed. Entering through the front door as quietly as I possibly could, I left my things by the door near the coat rack, my glasses on the table near the front door. Removing my shoes, I quietly crept through the darkened hallway and up the stairs; wincing as the ninth step of the stairs gave a large creak. With bated breath I waited, worried that I may have woken you up. A minute of silence, I let it out; it seems you had a long day as well. You don't normally sleep this deeply otherwise. A few more unhindered minutes of quiet creeping and I finally made it into our room.

It was sight to behold. 'For me anyway.' I lightly mused. There you lay on our queen sized, curled up on your side, dressed in a plain white shirt and blue shorts. The sheets had been rumpled all over the bed and some had slipped off your body. A testament to the stressful mood you had been earlier in your sleep. The sight, as enticing as it was, led a smile to grace my lips. I savoured every moment while you slept. Your short flaming red hair framing your face; your mouth opening and closing slightly as drew your short breaths. The moonlight had poured in from a small crack in the drapes, making you, as corny as it sounds, angelic to my eyes.

I got dressed in my sleepwear, quietly of course, which consisted of deep tan shirt you had given me on my birthday to match my chocolate brown hair and a pair of long, dark blue jogging pants. Slowly, ever so slowly, I slipped underneath the strewn sheets beside you and carefully covered you body with it as well. I heard you give out a small sigh of content as you leaned closer me seeking for more warmth. I gave in to your unspoken request, draping an arm over your waist as I quietly settled in.

"Welcome home." Your voice was soft and pleasant to my ears. "I'm sorry, did I wake you?" It was a stupid question, but I had asked anyway for the sake of it. You didn't answer; instead you snuggled closer to me. "Long day at work?" you asked. "Yeah, the firewalls at the lab crashed. I had to spend my time trying to bring it back up while viruses started to crop up all over. I swear, if I hear another person calling for me because their file is under attack…." You gave a small giggle; it relaxed me in a way. "They've been working you too hard."

"What about you? How was your day at the school?" Memories of the past started to crop up. We used to attend the school where you now teach at. You, me, along with all of our friends all were enjoying each other's company as we did our usual school antics. Those were good times. "Same old" You tensed your body slightly as you gave a yawn of weariness. "Go back to sleep." It was more of a request. "Good night dear." You said as you settled back in to dream land. I smiled one more time, before sleep too, swallowed me. There was no need for either of us to say 'I love you'. It was something that wasn't needed to be said by either one of us. We love each, and will continue to do so. We made that vow to each other at the altar a couple of years ago. There is no need to say anything that is said through our actions and gazes. It's something special after all. END
